제4절 말세와 현세
예수님께서 장차 있을 베드로의 죽음에 관하여 말씀하실 때에, 이 말씀을 듣고 있던 베드로가 요한은 어떻게 될 것인가고 질문하였다. 이에 대하여 예수님은 내가 올 때까지 그를 머물게 하고자 할지라도 네게 무슨 상관이냐(요 21 : 22)고 대답하셨다. 그러므로 이 말씀을 들은 사도(使徒)들은 모두 요한의 생전에 예수께서 재림하실 줄 알고 있었던 것이다. 그뿐 아니라 마태복음 10장 23절을 보면, 예수님은 제자들에게 이스라엘의 모든 동리를 다 다니지 못하여서 인자가 오리라고 하셨고, 마태복음 16장 28절에는 여기 섰는 사람 중에 죽기 전에 인자가 그 왕권을 가지고 오는 것을 볼 자들도 있느니라고 말씀하셨다. 이러한 말씀들에 의하여 예수님의 제자들도 그러했거니와, 그 후 오늘에 이르기까지의 많은 성도들은 저마다 자기 당대(當代)에 예수님이 오실 것으로 믿었기 때문에, 그들은 언제나 말세라는 절박감에서 벗어날 수 없었던 것이다.
When Jesus was speaking to Peter of his fate, Peter asked him about John’s future. Jesus replied, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” (John 21:22) Upon hearing this, the disciples thought Jesus would return during John’s lifetime. Moreover, Jesus said to his disciples, “you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes” (Matt. 10:23) and “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” (Matt. 16:28) Based on these sayings, the disciples and many Christians since have believed that Jesus would return during their lifetime. They have been constantly haunted by a sense of urgency that the Last Days are at hand.
이것은 말세(末世)에 대한 근본 뜻을 몰랐기 때문이다. 우리는 이제 하나님께서 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적으로 세우고 이루어 나오시던 3대 축복(三大祝福)이 복귀되어 가는 현상으로 보아 현세가 바로 말세임을 입증할 수 있다. 그래서 예수님은 무화과나무의 비유를 배우라 그 가지가 연하여지고 잎사귀를 내면 여름이 가까운 줄을 아나니(마 24 : 32)라고 하셨다.
This is because they fail to grasp the fundamental meaning of the Last Days. We can deduce that today is in fact the Last Days by examining the various circumstances of the present age. We can recognize in these circumstances the restoration of the three great blessings, which God has purposed in His providence of restoration. As Jesus said: From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (Matt. 24:32-33)
4.1 Signs of the Restoration of the First Blessing
이미 창조원리(創造原理)에서 논술한 바, 하나님이 아담과 해와에게 약속하셨던 제1축복(第一祝福)은 바로 그들이 개성(個性)을 완성하게 되는 것을 의미한다. 타락인간(墮落人間)을 개성을 완성한 창조본연(創造本然)의 인간으로 복귀해 나오신 하나님의 섭리가 그 최종단계에 이르렀다는 것은, 아래와 같은 여러 현상으로 보아 알 수 있는 것이다.
The first blessing God gave to Adam and Eve was perfection of individual character. (cf. Creation 3.2) In the modern world, there are various phenomena which indicate that God’s providence to restore fallen people to their original state as perfected individuals is near its zenith.
첫째로, 타락인간의 심령(心靈)이 복귀되어 가는 것으로 보아 그러하다. 인간이 완성되면 하나님과 완전히 심정적인 일체를 이루어 서로 교통(交通)할 수 있도록 창조되었다 함은 이미 위에서 논한 바와 같다. 그러므로 아담과 해와도 불완전한 상태이기는 하였지만 하나님과 일문일답하던 단계에서 타락되어, 그의 후손은 하나님을 모르는 데까지 떨어져 버린 것이다. 이렇게 타락된 인간이 복귀섭리의 시대적인 혜택을 받게 됨에 따라 점차 그 심령이 복귀됨으로써, 말세에 이르러서는 사도행전 2장 17절에 말세에 내가 내 영으로 모든 육체에게 부어 주리니 너희의 자녀들은 예언할 것이요 너희의 젊은이들은 환상을 보고 너희의 늙은이들은 꿈을 꾸리라고 하신 말씀대로, 많은 성도들이 하나님과 영통(靈通)하는 데까지 이르게 되는 것이다. 그런데 현세에 이르러서는 영통하는 성도들이 우후(雨後)의 죽순(竹筍)같이 일어나는 것으로 보아, 현세는 말세이기 때문에 인간이 개성을 완성하여 하나님의 제1축복(第一祝福)을 복귀할 수 있는 시대에로 들어가고 있다는 것을 알 수 있는 것이다.
First, we can observe that the spirituality of fallen people is being restored. We have already explained that when a person reaches perfection, he becomes completely one with God in heart and is able to build true relationships with others. Adam and Eve, though not quite perfect, were able to converse with God. When they fell from this state, they caused their descendants also to sink into ignorance of and insensibility to God. Gradually, the spirituality of fallen people has been rehabilitated as they enjoy the merit of the age in the providence of restoration. In the Last Days, therefore, many faithful believers will acquire the ability to communicate with God, as was prophesied in the Bible: In the last days . . . I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:17) As we witness a profusion of spiritual phenomena taking place all around us, we can discern that the present era is the Last Days. We are entering an era when we can reach individual perfection and restore the first blessing of God.
둘째로, 타락인간이 본심(本心)의 자유를 복귀해 가고 있는 역사적인 귀추가 더욱 그것을 보여 주고 있다. 인간은 타락으로 인하여 사탄의 주관하에 들어 본심의 자유에 구속을 받게 됨으로써, 하나님 앞으로 나아갈 수 있는 자유를 잃어버리게 되었다. 그러나 현세에 이르러서는 육신의 생명을 버리고라도 본심의 자유를 찾으려는 심정이 고조되고 있으니, 이것은 말세(末世)가 되어 개성을 완성함으로써 타락인간이 사탄에게 잃어버렸던 하나님의 제1축복(第一祝福)을 복귀하여 하나님 앞으로 자유로이 나아갈 수 있는 시대에로 들어가고 있기 때문이다.
A second sign that the first blessing is being restored in the present era can be seen in the historical trend toward the recovery of the freedom of the original mind. Due to the Fall, our original mind was shackled under the yoke of Satan, and we lost the freedom to come before God. In the present era, as people struggle for freedom at the cost of their lives, the zeal to gain true freedom has reached its height. This is an indication that we are now entering a new era in which we can attain individual perfection, long denied by Satan, and freely go before God.
셋째로, 타락인간의 창조본연(創造本然)의 가치성이 복귀되어 가는 현상으로 보아 더욱 그러하다는 것을 알 수 있다. 인간의 창조본연의 가치는 횡적으로 보면 누구나 동등하기 때문에 그 가치가 그다지 귀중한 것같이 여겨지지 않는다. 그러나 하늘을 중심하고 종적으로 보면, 각 개성은 가장 존귀한 천주적인 가치를 제각기 띠고 있는 것이다(전편 제7장 제1절). 그러나 인간은 타락으로 인하여 이러한 가치를 모두 잃어버리고 말았다. 그런데 현세에 이르러 민주주의사상(民主主義思想)이 고조됨에 따라 인간이 노예 해방, 흑인 해방, 약소민족 해방 등을 주장하며 인권옹호(人權擁護)와 남녀평등(男女平等)과 만민평등(萬民平等)을 부르짖음으로써 창조본연의 개성의 가치를 최고도로 추구하는 데 이르렀으니, 이것은 바로 말세가 다 되어 타락인간이 잃어버렸던 하나님의 제1축복을 복귀할 수 있는 시대에로 들어가고 있음을 실증하는 것이다.
A third sign of the renewal of the first blessing is the restoration of true human value. From the horizontal perspective, every person possesses equal value, but that does not do justice to his true worth. From the vertical perspective of Heaven, each individual possesses the loftiest cosmic value. (Christology 1) Human beings lost their original value because of the Fall. In the present era, as democratic ideals have flourished, people have been promoting the emancipation of slaves, the freedom of oppressed racial minorities, and the independence of small and weak nations. They are advocating human rights and equality between the sexes and among all peoples. More than ever before, people are zealously uplifting the value of the individual toward its original value. This demonstrates that we have arrived at the threshold of the Last Days, when fallen people can restore the first blessing of God.
넷째로, 타락인간의 본성(本性)의 사랑이 복귀되어 가고 있다는 사실이 더욱 그것을 말해 주고 있다. 하나님의 창조이상(創造理想)을 완성한 세계는 완성한 사람 하나 모양의 세계로서, 그 세계의 인간은 모두 하나님과 종적으로 일체를 이루고 있기 때문에, 인간 상호간에 있어서도 횡적으로 일체를 이루지 않을 수 없게 되는 것이다. 따라서 이 세계는 오직 하나님의 사랑으로써 종횡(縱橫)으로 얽히어 한 몸같이 될 수밖에 없게 된다. 그러나 인간은 타락으로 인하여 하나님과의 종적인 사랑이 끊어졌기 때문에 인간들 사이의 횡적인 사랑도 따라서 끊어지게 되어 인류역사는 투쟁으로써 엮어져 나왔던 것이다. 그러나 현세(現世)에 이르러서는 박애주의사상(博愛主義思想)이 고조되면서 인간이 점점 그 본성애(本性愛)를 찾아 들어가고 있는 것으로 보아, 현세는 하나님의 제1축복(第一祝福)을 복귀함으로써 하나님의 사랑을 중심하고 개성을 완성할 수 있는 말세(末世)에로 들어가고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다.
A fourth sign that the first blessing is being renewed in the present age is the restoration of original, true love in fallen people. The world which has realized the ideal of God will be in the image of a perfected individual. Every person in that world is united with God vertically, and this forms the basis upon which they can naturally live in harmony with each other horizontally. Solidarity and empathy are attained only when people join together in the love of God. Due to the Fall, the vertical bond of love between God and people was broken, and this in turn caused the horizontal love among them to be severed. As a result, human history became one of perpetual conflict. In the present era, however, the philosophy of universal love has become widespread, and people are increasingly seeking for true, original love. This is more evidence that the present time is the eve of the Last Days, when we can restore God’s first blessing and reach perfection of individual character grounded in the love of God.
4.2 Signs of the Restoration of the Second Blessing
하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福)은 아담과 해와가 참부모로 완성되어 선의 자녀를 번식함으로써 선주권(善主權)의 가정과 사회와 세계를 이루게 되는 것을 의미한다. 그런데 아담과 해와는 타락되어 악의 부모가 되었기 때문에, 전인류는 악의 자녀들이 되어 악주권(惡主權)에 구속된 세계를 이루고 말았다. 그러나 하나님은 한편으로 종교를 세워 역사하심으로써 내적인 사탄 분립에 의한 심령복귀(心靈復歸)의 섭리를 하시고, 또 한편으로는 투쟁과 전쟁으로 외적인 사탄 분립을 하심으로써 내외 양면에 걸친 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 섭리를 해 내려오셨던 것이다.
God’s second blessing was for Adam and Eve to attain True Parenthood and bear and raise good children, forming a family, society and world where goodness reigns. However, Adam and Eve fell and became evil parents multiplying evil children; their descendants (all humanity) formed a world oppressed by evil. Ever since, God has been conducting a twofold providence, internal and external, to restore the sovereignty of goodness. God has founded religions and worked through them to elevate people’s spirituality by internally purifying people of satanic elements. At the same time, God has been cutting off Satan’s influence externally through conflicts and wars.
이와 같이 인류역사는 내외(內外) 양면의 사탄 분립에 의한 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)로서 장차 참부모 되신 예수님을 모실 수 있는 자녀를 찾아 하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福)을 복귀해 온 것이므로, 종교를 중심한 문화권의 발전사와 국가 흥망사에 의해 나타난 내외 양면에 걸친 하나님의 주권복귀의 현상으로 보아 현세가 바로 말세(末世)임을 알 수 있다.
By separating Satan both internally and externally, the providence of restoration has been raising up good children who will one day be able to serve Christ when he comes as the True Parent. In this way,human history has been paving the way for the restoration of God’s second blessing. Accordingly, we can deduce that the present era is the Last Days by examining the signs of the internal and external restoration of God’s sovereignty. These are manifested as trends in the history of the development of cultural spheres and in the history of the rise and fall of nations, both of which are rooted in religion.
First, let us investigate how the history of the development of cultural spheres has progressed to the point when, in the present era, we have arrived at the threshold of the Last Days.
문화권 발전사에 관한 문제는 이미 여러 차례 논술한 바이지만, 하나님은 타락인간에게 성현(聖賢)들을 보내시어 선을 지향하는 인간의 본심을 따라 종교를 세우게 하심으로써 그 종교를 중심한 문화권을 일으키셨다. 그러므로 역사상에는 많은 문화권이 일어났던 것이었으나, 시대가 흘러감에 따라 이것들은 서로 융합 또는 흡수되어 현세에 이르러서는 기독교(基督敎)를 중심한 하나의 세계적인 문화권을 형성해 가는 추세를 보여 주고 있다. 이러한 역사적인 추세는 기독교의 중심인 예수님을 중심하고 모든 민족이 같은 형제의 입장에 서게 됨으로써, 하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福)이 복귀되어 간다는 사실을 보여 주고 있는 것이다.
God sends prophets and saints to fallen humanity to found religions. He works to develop them through the original minds of those who seek the good. In this way, God builds up cultural spheres based upon religions. Although many cultural spheres have emerged in the course of history, with the passage of time most of them either merged with or were absorbed by others. In the present age, we see a clear trend toward the formation of one global cultural sphere based on Christian ideals. As this trend progresses, all races and peoples are increasingly coming to stand side by side as brothers and sisters under the love and guidance of Jesus Christ, thereby restoring the second blessing of God.
기독교가 다른 종교와 다른 것은, 전인류(全人類)의 참부모를 찾아 세워 가지고 그로 말미암아 모든 인간이 중생(重生)하여 선의 자녀가 됨으로써, 하나님의 창조본연(創造本然)의 대가족의 세계를 복귀하려는 데 그 목적이 있다는 점이다. 이것은 곧 기독교가 복귀섭리의 목적을 완성할 중심 종교라는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 그런데 현세에 이르러서는 세계가 기독교를 중심하고 하나의 문화권으로 형성되어, 인류의 참부모 되신 예수와 성신(전편 제7장 참조)을 중심하고 모든 인간이 선의 자녀의 입장에 서게 됨으로써, 하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福) 복귀의 현상을 보여 주고 있다. 이러한 사실로 보아 우리는 현세가 바로 말세(末世)라는 것을 부인할 수 없는 것이다.
The main distinction between Christianity and other religions is that its purpose is to receive and honor the True Parents of humanity, through whom all people can be reborn as good children. In this way, Christianity should renew the world as the one global family which God purposed from the time of creation. This makes Christianity the central religion with the mission to fulfill the goal of the providence of restoration. In the present era, the world has been coalescing into one cultural sphere based on Christian ideals. As the world has been greatly influenced by the teachings of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, who are the True Parents of humankind, (cf. Christology 4) the way has been opened for all people to become godly children. This trend is evidence that God’s second blessing is being restored. Thus, we can conclude with certainty that the present age is the Last Days.
다음으로 국가 흥망사는 어떻게 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 목적을 향하여 흘러와서, 현세를 말세에로 이끌어 가고 있는가를 알아보자.
Next, let us investigate how the history of the rise and fall of nations has been progressing toward the goal of restoring the sovereignty of good, thereby leading us into the Last Days.
투쟁이나 전쟁을 단순히 어떠한 이해관계나 이념의 상충에서 빚어지는 결과라고 보는 것은 하나님의 근본섭리(根本攝理)를 모르는 데서 일어나는 잘못이다. 인류역사는 인간 시조의 타락으로 말미암아 사탄을 중심한 악주권(惡主權)으로 출발하여 죄악의 역사를 형성하였다. 그러나 하나님의 창조목적(創造目的)이 남아 있는 한, 그 역사의 목적도 어디까지나 사탄을 분립하여 하나님의 선주권(善主權)을 복귀하는 데 있지 않으면 안 된다. 만일 악주권의 세계에 전쟁도 분열도 없다면 그 세계는 그대로 영속(永續)할 것이요, 따라서 선주권은 영원히 복귀될 수 없을 것이다. 그러므로 하나님은 타락인간에게 성현(聖賢)들을 보내시어 선을 세우고 종교를 일으키심으로써, 보다 선한 주권으로 하여금 보다 악한 주권을 멸하게 하시면서 점차적으로 하늘편 주권을 복귀하시는 섭리를 해 오신 것이다. 따라서 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적을 이루기 위하여는 투쟁과 전쟁이라는 과정을 거치지 않을 수 없는 것이다.
It is an error brought about by ignorance of the fundamental providence of God to regard the cause of struggles and wars as mere conflicts of interests and contests between ideologies. Humankind has suffered through a sinful history ever since the first human ancestors fell under the subjugation of Satan. However, as long as God’s purpose of creation still stands, the purpose of this history must be to cut out ties with Satan and restore God’s kingdom. If there were no wars or divisions in this fallen world, then the sovereignty of evil would continue forever and the world would never be restored. Therefore, God has worked His providence to restore the heavenly sovereignty by degrees. He sends prophets and saints to the fallen world to found religions and raise the level of morality. He establishes governments with higher standards of goodness which come to oppose and destroy regimes with lower standards of goodness. To fulfill the providence of restoration, therefore, conflicts and wars are unavoidable.
이 문제에 관하여는 후편에서 더욱 상세히 논하겠거니와, 인류역사는 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)의 섭리노정을 밟아 내려오는 것이기 때문에 어느 국한된 시간권 내에서만 보면 악이 승세(勝勢)한 때도 없지 않았으나, 결국 그것은 패망하여 보다 선한 판도 내에 흡수되곤 하였다. 그러므로 전쟁으로 인한 국가의 흥망성쇠(興亡盛衰)는 선주권을 복귀하기 위한 섭리노정에서 일어나는 불가피한 결과인 것이다.
To summarize some of these issues, many of which will be treated more thoroughly in Part II, human history has progressed through the providential course of restoration through indemnity. Although there have been times when evil seemed to prevail, in the end the relatively evil social and political forces declined and were absorbed by the more godly forces. The wars which have shaped the rise and fall of nations are thus unavoidable during the course of the providence to re-establish the reign of good.
그러기에 하나님은 이스라엘 민족을 세워 가나안 7족을 멸하셨던 것이고, 사울은 하나님의 명을 어기고 아말렉족과 그에 속한 짐승들을 전멸시키지 않았다가 엄벌을 받았던 것이다(삼상 15 : 18∼23). 하나님은 이와 같이 직접 이민족(異民族)들을 멸할 것을 이스라엘에게 명령하셨을 뿐만 아니라, 그의 선민(選民)이었던 북조 이스라엘도 악으로 돌아갈 때 아낌없이 그들을 앗시리아에 내주시어 멸망케 하셨던 것이다(왕하 17 : 23). 하나님이 이와 같이 하셨던 것은 오직 악주권(惡主權)을 멸하시고 선주권(善主權)을 복귀하시기 위함이었던 것임을 알아야 한다.
For example, in the Bible God ordered the Israelites to destroy the seven tribes of Canaan. When Saul disobeyed Him, leaving some of the Amalekites alive with their cattle, God severely punished him. (I Sam. 15:18-23) While on that occasion God commanded the Israelites to destroy the Gentiles, at another time, when the Israelites of the northern kingdom turned to evil, God delivered them into the hands of the Assyrians. (II Kings 17:23) We must understand that God’s only intention by these events was to obliterate the sovereignty of evil and restore the sovereignty of good.
그러므로 같은 하늘편 안에서의 개인적인 투쟁은 선주권 자체를 파괴하는 결과가 되므로 악이 되지만, 선주권이 악주권을 멸하는 것은 하나님의 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적을 이루기 위한 것이므로 이것은 선이 된다.
Therefore, fights between individuals within the same good sovereignty on the side of God are evil, because they can weaken and even cause the disintegration of the good sovereignty itself. On the other hand, wars conducted by a good sovereignty to destroy an evil sovereignty are good in that they further the fulfillment of the providence of restoration.
이와 같이 사탄 분립을 위한 투쟁의 역사는 점차적으로 땅과 재물을 세계적으로 빼앗아 하늘편 주권으로 복귀하는 데 이르렀고, 인간에 있어서도 개인으로부터 가정과 사회와 국가에로 하늘편 기대를 넓혀, 오늘날에는 이것을 세계적으로 복귀하는 데 이르렀다. 이렇듯 사탄 분립을 위한 섭리가 씨족주의시대(氏族主義時代)에서 출발하여 봉건주의시대(封建主義時代)와 군주주의시대(君主主義時代)를 거치어 민주주의시대(民主主義時代)로 들어오게 된 오늘날에 와서는, 이 인간세계를 하늘편 주권을 세우는 민주주의세계와 사탄편 주권을 세우는 공산주의세계의 두 세계로 분립하여 놓았다.
The history of conflicts among nations has served the purpose of cutting off Satan’s ties to humankind. History has progressed to the point where God’s side can now reclaim territories and wealth all over the world. The providence to reclaim people began from lone individuals called by God. God’s foundation progressively expanded to families, societies and nations, and today has reached the world level. The providence to separate Satan began with the clan society and continued through stages of political and social development: feudalism, monarchy and, today, democracy. At present, our world is divided into two: the democratic world, which seeks to create societies on God’s side, and the communist world, which has been establishing regimes on Satan’s side.
이와 같이 사탄을 중심한 악주권(惡主權)으로써 출발한 인류역사는, 한편으로 종교와 철학과 윤리에 의하여 선을 지향하는 인간의 창조본성(創造本性)이 환기됨에 따라 점차 악주권에서 선주권(善主權)을 위한 세력이 분립되어, 마침내 세계적으로 대립되는 두 주권을 형성하는 데 이르른 것이다. 그런데 목적이 상반되는 이 두 주권이 결코 공존할 수는 없다. 따라서 인류역사의 종말에 이르르면 이것들은 반드시 한 점에서 교차(交叉)되어 이념을 중심하고 내적으로 상충하고, 그것이 원인이 되어 군사력을 중심하고 외적으로 전쟁을 하여, 결국 사탄주권은 영원히 파멸되고 하늘편 주권만이 영원한 하나님의 단일주권(單一主權)으로서 복귀되는 것이다. 그런데 현세는 선주권을 지향하는 하늘편 세계와 사탄을 중심한 악주권의 세계가 대결하여 서로 교차되고 있는 때이므로 또한 말세인 것이다.
In other words, although fallen human history began under the sovereignty of Satan, God’s providence has brought about a progressive transformation of the hearts of people and has nurtured their original nature, which seeks goodness through religion, philosophy and ethics. This inner nurturing has inspired groups which seek a just rule to separate from the prevailing evil. This process of separation has culminated in the establishment of two opposing powers on the global level. These two sovereignties, with contrary purposes, can by no means peacefully coexist. As human history nears its consummation, they will surely arrive at the point of intersection, colliding internally in the realm of ideology. This inner conflict may spur them to fight external wars with military forces. At the conclusion of this conflict, Satan’s sovereignty will perish forever and Heaven’s sovereignty will be re-established as the one, eternal sovereignty of God. Today we are at this very point of intersection, when these two worlds are confronting each other in the final battle. This is yet more evidence that the present era is the Last Days.
이와 같이 악주권에서 선주권을 분립하여 나온 인류역사는, 마치 흐르는 흙물이 시간이 흐름에 따라 흙은 가라앉고 물은 위에 뜨게 되어 나중에는 흙과 물이 완전히 분리되는 것과 같이 시대가 흘러감에 따라 악주권은 점차 쇠망(衰亡)의 길로 내려오고 선주권은 융흥(隆興)의 길로 올라가게 되어, 역사의 종말에 이르러 이 두 주권은 얼마동안 교차되었다가 결국 전자는 영원히 멸망하고 후자는 하나님의 주권으로서 영원히 남아지게 되는 것이다.
The flow of human history, in which good and evil are gradually separated, may be compared to muddy water. When muddy water is flowing slowly, the mud sinks to the bottom while the clear water rises to the top, until eventually the mud and water are completely separated. Human history is similar: with the passage of time, the evil sovereignty slowly sinks to destruction while the good sovereignty gradually ascends on the path of prosperity. After these two sovereignties intersect near the end of history, the good sovereignty will remain as God’s eternal Kingdom, while the evil sovereignty will perish in eternal darkness.
이와 같이 선(善) 악(惡) 두 주권의 역사노정(歷史路程)이 교차되는 때가 말세(末世)인 것이다. 그리하여 이때는 아담과 해와가 타락된 장성기 완성급(長成期 完成級)의 시기를 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)하는 때이므로, 마치 에덴동산의 인간 시조가 어디에다 중심을 두어야 할지 모르고 혼돈되었던 것과 같이 모든 인간들도 사상의 혼돈을 일으키어 방황하게 되는 것이다.
The era when the paths of these good and evil sovereignties intersect is the Last Days. This is also the time when Adam and Eve’s fall from the top of the growth stage will be restored through indemnity. All people in this era will suffer through great ideological confusion, much as the first human ancestors at the point of their temptation were utterly confused as to whom they should obey and what should guide their actions.
복귀섭리노정(復歸攝理路程)에 있어 이와 같이 말세가 되어 선악의 두 주권이 교차되었던 때는 여러 차례 있었다. 위에서 이미 논술한 바와 같이, 노아 때나 예수님 때도 말세여서 이 두 주권은 서로 교차되었었던 것이다. 그러나 그때마다 인간이 그 책임분담(責任分擔)을 다하지 못하여 악주권을 멸하지 못하였기 때문에, 주권 분립(主權分立)의 섭리를 다시 하시지 않을 수 없게 되었던 것이다. 따라서 예수 재림기(再臨期)에 있어 다시 한 번 두 주권의 교차가 있게 되는 것이다. 복귀섭리노정은 이렇듯 주기적으로 상사(相似)의 나선상(螺線狀)을 반복하면서 원형과정(圓形過程)을 거쳐 창조목적(創造目的)을 지향하여 내려왔기 때문에, 역사상에는 필연적으로 동시성의 시대가 형성되었던 것이다(후편 제3장 제1절 참조).
During the course of the providence of restoration, there were several occurrences of the Last Days, when the good and evil sovereignties came to the point of intersection. The times of Noah and Jesus, as mentioned earlier, were also the Last Days. Hence, they too were times when the two sovereignties intersected. Yet because people failed to accomplish their portion of responsibility, God’s efforts to destroy the evil sovereignty were frustrated, and He had to begin once again the providence to separate good from evil. At the time of Jesus’ return, the two sovereignties will intersect once more. The course of the providence progresses in a spiral path, moving forward in pursuit of the purpose of creation while events periodically repeat themselves in a circular fashion. Consequently, history has repeated itself, producing parallel periods. (cf. Periods 1)
4.3 Signs of the Restoration of the Third Blessing
하나님의 제3축복(第三祝福)은 아담과 해와가 완성되어 피조세계(被造世界)에 대한 주관성(主管性)을 갖게 되는 것을 의미한다. 피조세계에 대한 인간의 주관성은 내외(內外) 양면의 주관성이 있다. 인간은 타락으로 인하여 이 양면의 주관성을 상실하였던 것인데, 현세(現世)에 이르러 이것이 복귀되어 가고 있는 것으로 보아 현세는 말세(末世)라는 것을 알 수 있는 것이다.
Once Adam and Eve had attained perfection, they were to fulfill God’s third blessing by gaining dominion over the natural world. Dominion over the natural world has two aspects: internal and external. Both these aspects of dominion were lost to humankind at the Fall, but we witness their restoration in the present era. This also suggests that the present era is the Last Days.
내적 주관성이라는 것은 심정적 주관성을 의미한다. 인간이 개성을 완성하면 하나님과 심정적인 일체를 이루어 하나님의 심정(心情)을 그대로 체휼할 수 있게 되는 것이다. 이와 같이 인간이 완성됨으로써 피조세계에 대한 하나님의 심정과 동일한 심정을 가지고 피조세계에 대하여 사랑을 주고 그로부터 미(美)를 돌려 받게 될 때, 인간은 피조세계에 대한 심정적인 주관자가 되는 것이다. 그런데 인간은 타락되어 하나님의 심정을 체휼할 수 없게 되었으므로 하나님의 심정으로써 피조세계를 대할 수 없게 되었었다. 그러나 종교(宗敎), 철학(哲學), 윤리(倫理) 등에 의한 하나님의 복귀섭리로 말미암아 하나님에 대한 타락인간의 심령(心靈)이 점차로 밝아지게 되어, 현세에 이르러서는 피조세계(被造世界)에 대한 심정적인 주관자의 자격을 복귀해 가고 있는 것이다.
Internal dominion denotes dominion of the heart. A person who reaches perfection and comes fully to resonate with God in heart will experience God’s Heart as his own reality. Hence, he will be able to love the creation with the same love as that which emanates from God’s Heart and appreciate its beauty with the same delight as God. This is the meaning of dominion of the heart. However, when human beings fell and could no longer experience God’s Heart as a reality, they also could no longer relate to the creation with the same love as that which flows from God’s Heart. God’s providence of restoration through religion, philosophy, ethics and so forth, has gradually elevated the spirituality of fallen people toward God. In the modern world, there is evidence that people are regaining the worthiness to govern the creation through heart.
그리고 외적 주관성은 과학(科學)에 의한 주관성을 의미한다. 만일 인간이 완성되어 피조세계에 대한 하나님의 창조의 심정과 동일한 심정을 가지고 피조세계를 대하여 내적 주관을 할 수 있었더라면, 인간의 영감(靈感)은 고차적으로 발달되었을 것이기 때문에 과학의 발달도 극히 단시일에 최고도에 달하게 되었을 것이었다. 인간은 그렇게 됨으로써 피조물(被造物)에 대한 외적인 주관을 할 수 있었을 것이었다. 따라서 인간은 일찍이 천체(天體)를 비롯한 자연계(自然界) 전체를 완전히 정복하였을 뿐만 아니라, 과학의 발달에 따르는 경제발전으로 말미암아 지극히 안락한 생활환경을 이루었을 것이었다. 그러나 인간은 타락(墮落)으로 인하여 심령이 어두워짐으로써 피조물에 대한 내적인 주관성을 상실하게 되어 동물과 같이 영감이 둔한 미개인으로 영락(零落)되었기 때문에, 피조물에 대한 외적인 주관성도 상실하게 되었던 것이다.
External dominion denotes proper mastery of the creation through science and technology. Had our first ancestors reached perfection and attained internal dominion over the creation, able to love it with the same heart as God, then their sensibility to the spiritual dimension of creation would have developed to the highest degree. This would have stimulated the rapid advancement of science, giving them external dominion over everything in the natural world. Humankind would have reached the stars long ago and harnessed the full potential of the universe. Economic progress would have accompanied the development of science and technology, creating a comfortable and pleasant living environment. However, due to the Fall, people’s spirituality declined, and they lost internal dominion over the natural world. Their spiritual sensibility became as dull as those of animals, and they descended to the level of primitive man. Consequently, they also lost external dominion over the natural world.
그러나 인간은 하나님의 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)에 의하여 심령이 밝아짐에 따라 피조물에 대한 내적인 주관성도 복귀되어 왔고, 그에 따라 피조물에 대한 외적인 주관성도 점차로 복귀되어 왔기 때문에 현세에 이르러서는 과학의 발달도 최고도에 달하게 되었다. 그리하여 과학의 발달에 따르는 경제발전으로 말미암아 현대인은 극도로 안락한 생활환경을 이룩할 수 있게 되었다.
Through God’s providence of restoration, people’s spirituality is being elevated and their internal dominion over the creation is being restored. As a result, their external dominion is also being renewed, leading to today’s highly advanced science. Modern people have built an extremely comfortable and pleasant living environment through the economic progress that has accompanied scientific development.
이와 같이 타락인간의 피조세계에 대한 주관성을 복귀함에 따라 하나님의 제3축복(第三祝福)이 복귀되어 가는 현상을 볼 때, 우리는 현세가 말세(末世)임을 부인할 수 없는 것이다.
Fallen people have thus been restoring their dominion over the universe, advancing toward the re-establishment of God’s third blessing. Observing this, we are assured that the present era is the Last Days.
이미 위에서 여러 번 보아 온 바와 같이, 문화권(文化圈)의 발전도 하나의 종교를 중심하고 하나의 세계적인 문화권을 형성해 가고 있고, 국가 형태도 하나의 세계적인 주권기구를 지향하여 국제연맹(國際聯盟)에서 국제연합(國際聯合)으로, 그리고 오늘에 이르러서는 세계정부(世界政府)를 모색하는 데까지 이르렀다. 뿐만 아니라 경제발전을 놓고 보더라도 세계는 하나의 공동시장(共同市場)을 이루어 가는 추세에 있으며, 극도로 발달된 교통기관과 통신기관은 시간과 공간을 단축시켜서 인간으로 하여금 지구를 하나의 정원과 같이 거닐고 또 교통할 수 있게 하였으며, 동서(東西)의 이색민족(異色民族)들을 한 가족처럼 접촉할 수 있도록 만들어 놓았다. 그리하여 인류는 사해동포(四海同胞)의 형제애(兄弟愛)를 부르짖고 있다. 그러나 가정은 부모가 있음으로써만 이루어지며, 또 거기에서만 진정한 형제애는 일어나게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 이제 인류의 부모 되신 예수님만 재림하시면 전인류는 하나의 정원에서 하나의 대가족(大家族)을 이루어 가지고 단란하게 살 수 있게 될 것이다.
To summarize, the world’s cultural spheres are converging toward one global cultural sphere based on one religion. Concurrently, nations are moving toward forming an apparatus for international governance, having progressed from the League of Nations to the United Nations. Today, people are envisioning plans for a world government. In the sphere of economics, the world is moving in the direction of establishing one international market. Highly developed transportation and communication technology have overcome the separation of time and space. People today can travel and communicate with each other almost as if they were all living in the same village. People of all races, from East and West, can meet with one another as easily as if they were members of a large family. People on all six continents are crossing the oceans seeking friendship and brotherly love. However, a family can be formed only when there is a father and a mother; only then can true brotherly love arise. Only when Christ comes again as the Parent of humanity will all people join together in one great family and live harmoniously in the global village.
이러한 것을 보더라도 현세는 말세임에 틀림이 없는 것이다. 이렇게 흘러온 역사가 인류에게 주어야 할 최후의 선물이 한 가지 있으니, 그것은 목적 없이 한 정원에 모여 웅성거리고 있는 낯선 이 나그네들을 한 부모를 중심한 한 식구로 묶어 줄 수 있는 천주적(天宙的)인 이념인 것이다.
As these events unfold, we may know that today is surely the Last Days. There is yet one final gift that history must present to humanity: it is the cosmic teaching which can bind together all the strangers of the global village into one family through the love and guidance of the same parents.
