1.1 The Completion of God’s Purpose of Creation
이미 창조원리(創造原理)에서 상세히 논술한 바이지만, 하나님이 인간을 창조하신 목적은 인간을 보시고 기뻐하시기 위함이었다. 그러므로 인간이 존재하는 목적은 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 데 있는 것이다. 그러면 인간이 어떻게 되어야 하나님을 기쁘시게 하여 그의 창조본연의 존재가치(存在價値)를 완전히 나타낼 수 있을 것인가?
We have discussed how God’s purpose in creating human beings was to rejoice with them. (cf. Creation 3) Thus, our purpose of existence is to bring joy to God. What must we do to bring joy to God and fully manifest our original value?
인간 이외의 피조물(被造物)은 자연 그대로가 하나님의 기쁨의 대상이 되도록 창조되어 있다. 그러나 인간은 창조원리에서 밝혀진 바와 같이 자유의지(自由意志)와 그에 의한 행동을 통하여서 하나님께 기쁨을 돌려드리는 실체대상(實體對象)으로 창조되었기 때문에, 인간은 하나님의 뜻을 알고 스스로 노력하여서 그 뜻대로 생활하지 않고서는 하나님의 기쁨의 대상이 될 수 없는 것이다. 그러므로 인간은 어디까지나 하나님의 심정(心情)을 체휼하여 그 뜻을 알아 가지고 그 뜻대로 생활할 수 있도록 창조되었던 것이다. 인간이 그러한 자리에 서게 되는 것을 개성완성(個性完成)이라고 한다. 비록 부분적으로나마 타락 전의 아담 해와나 선지자(先知者)들이 하나님과 일문일답(一問一答)할 수 있었던 것은 그들 인간에게 이와 같이 창조되었던 소성(素性)이 있었기 때문이다.
Created beings other than humans are endowed with the innate nature to grow to maturity naturally and become object partners which bring God joy. Human beings, on the other hand, can become true and authentic object partners who bring joy to God only through their free will and free actions. (cf. Creation 5.2.2) They cannot become the object partners who inspire God with joy unless they understand His Will and make effort to live accordingly. Hence, human beings are endowed with emotional sensitivity to the Heart of God, intuition and reason to comprehend His Will, and the requisite abilities to practice it. A person who relates with God in this manner will attain perfection of his individual character. Adam and Eve prior to the Fall, as well as the prophets of every age, had some ability to converse with God because they had these innate faculties.
개성을 완성한 인간과 하나님과의 사이는 몸과 마음과의 관계로 비유할 수 있다. 몸은 마음이 거하는 하나의 전(殿)으로서 마음이 명령하는 대로 행동한다. 이와 같이 개성을 완성한 인간의 마음에는 하나님이 거하시게 되므로, 결국 이러한 인간은 하나님의 성전(聖殿)이 되어 하나님의 뜻대로만 생활하게 된다. 따라서 몸과 마음이 일체를 이루는 것과 같이, 개성을 완성한 인간은 하나님과 일체를 이루게 된다. 그러므로 고린도전서 3장 16절에 너희가 하나님의 성전인 것과 하나님의 성령이 너희 안에 거하시는 것을 알지 못하느뇨라고 하셨고, 요한복음 14장 20절에는 그 날에는 내가 아버지 안에 너희가 내 안에 내가 너희 안에 있는 것을 너희가 알리라고 말씀하셨다.
The relationship between God and a person who has attained individual perfection can be compared to that between the mind and the body. The body is the dwelling place of the mind and moves according to the mind’s direction. Likewise, God abides within the mind of a fully mature person. Such a person becomes a temple of God and leads his life in harmony with His Will. A perfect individual is fully attuned to God, just as the body resonates with the mind. For this reason it is written, “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (I Cor. 3:16) and “In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” (John 14:20)
이와 같이 개성(個性)을 완성하여 하나님의 성전을 이룸으로써, 성령(聖靈)이 그 안에 거하게 되어 하나님과 일체를 이룬 인간은 신성(神性)을 갖게 되므로 죄를 지으려야 지을 수 없게 되고, 따라서 타락할 수도 없게 된다.
A person who has perfected his individual character becomes a temple of God, and the Holy Spirit abides within him. Living in oneness with God, he acquires a divine nature. Thus, it is impossible for him to commit sin or to fall.
개성을 완성한 사람은 곧 하나님의 창조목적(創造目的)을 이룬 선(善)의 완성체인데, 선의 완성체가 타락된다면 선 그 자체가 파멸될 가능성을 내포하고 있다는 불합리(不合理)한 결과에 이른다. 뿐만 아니라 전능(全能)하신 하나님이 창조하신 인간이 완성된 입장에서 타락되었다면 하나님의 전능성마저 부정될 수밖에 없다. 영원(永遠)한 주체로 계시는 절대자(絶對者) 하나님의 기쁨의 대상도 영원성과 절대성을 가져야 하므로, 개성을 완성한 인간은 절대로 타락될 수 없는 것이다.
A person who has perfected his individual character embodies total goodness and fulfills the purpose of creation. If a person embodying total goodness could fall, this would lead to the illogical conclusion that goodness contains the seed of its own destruction. Moreover, if human beings, who were created by the omnipotent God, could fall even after becoming perfect, we would have reason to doubt the omnipotence of God. God is the absolute and eternal Subject. To give Him true joy, His object partner must necessarily also be eternal and absolute. For these reasons, a person who has perfected his individual character can never fall.
이와 같이 개성을 완성하여 죄를 지을 수 없게 된 아담과 해와가, 하나님의 축복하신 말씀대로(창 1 : 28) 선의 자녀를 번식하여 죄 없는 가정과 사회를 이루었더라면, 이것이 바로 한 부모를 중심한 대가족(大家族)으로 이루어지는 천국(天國)이었을 것이다.
Had Adam and Eve reached perfection, being thereafter insusceptible to sin, they would have borne good children and founded a sinless family and society in complete concordance with God’s blessings. (Gen. 1:28) They would have founded the Kingdom of Heaven, which consists of one great family with the same parents.
천국은 마치 개성을 완성한 사람 하나의 모양과 같은 세계여서, 인간에 있어 그 두뇌의 종적(縱的)인 명령에 의하여 그의 사지백체(四肢百體)가 서로 횡적(橫的)인 관계를 가지고 활동하듯이, 그 사회도 하나님으로부터의 종적인 명령에 의하여 서로 횡적인 유대(紐帶)를 맺어 생활하게 되어 있는 것이다. 이러한 사회에 있어서는, 어느 한 사람이라도 고통을 당하면 그것을 보시고 같이 서러워하시는 하나님의 심정(心情)을 사회 전체가 그대로 체휼하게 되기 때문에 이웃을 해치는 행위를 할 수 없게 된다.
The Kingdom of Heaven has the form of an individual who has achieved perfection of character. Just as the members of the human body are coordinated in horizontal relationships with each other and move as one in response to the vertical commands of the brain, in this society people will form cooperative horizontal relationships with each other and live together in tune with the vertical directions emanating from God. No one will harm his neighbor, since if one person were to suffer pain, everyone in this society would experience the Heart of God who shares in that person’s grief.
그리고 아무리 죄 없는 인간들이 생활하는 사회라 하더라도, 인간이 원시인들과 마찬가지로 미개한 생활을 그대로 할 수밖에 없다면, 이것은 하나님이 바라시고 또 인간이 원하는 천국은 아닐 것이다. 그러므로 하나님이 만물을 주관하라고 하신 말씀대로(창 1 : 28), 개성을 완성한 인간들은 과학을 발달시켜 자연계(自然界)를 정복함으로써 극도로 안락한 사회환경을 이 지상에 이루어 놓아야 하는 것이니, 이러한 창조이상(創造理想)이 실현된 곳이 바로 지상천국(地上天國)인 것이다. 이처럼 인간이 완성되어 지상천국을 이루고 살다가 육신을 벗고 영계(靈界)로 가게 되면 바로 거기에 천상천국(天上天國)이 이루어지게 된다. 그러므로 하나님의 창조목적(創造目的)은 어디까지나 먼저 이 지상에 천국을 건설하시려는 데 있었던 것이다.
Regardless of the purity of the people of this society, if they were living in primitive circumstances like cavemen, this could not be considered the Kingdom of Heaven which both God and human beings desire. God gave us the mandate to have dominion over all things. (Gen. 1:28) Hence, to realize the ideal of creation, people of perfected character should advance science, harness the natural world, and create an extremely pleasant social and living environment. This will be the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Once people have attained full maturity and enjoyed life in God’s earthly Kingdom, then when they shed their physical bodies and pass into the spirit world, they will form the Kingdom of Heaven in heaven. Accordingly, God’s primary purpose of creation is to build the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
1.2 Consequences of the Human Fall
창조원리(創造原理)에서 상술한 바와 같이, 인간은 아직도 성장기간(成長期間)에 있어서 미완성(未完成)한 입장에 있었을 때에 타락되었다. 인간에게는 왜 성장기간이 필요하였으며, 인간 시조가 미완성기에서 타락되었다고 보지 않을 수 없는 근거는 무엇인가 하는 문제들도 이미 창조원리에서 밝혔다.
Human beings fell while they were immature and still in their growing period. We have already clarified why the growing period was necessary and what the evidence is for the conclusion that the first human beings fell while immature. (cf. Creation 5.2.1)
인간은 타락함으로 말미암아 하나님의 성전(聖殿)을 이루지 못하고, 사탄이 우거(寓居)하는 전(殿)이 되어 그와 일체를 이룸으로써 신성(神性)을 갖지 못하고 악성(惡性)을 갖게 되었다. 이와 같이 악성을 가진 인간이 악의 자녀를 번식하여 악의 가정과 사회와 세계를 이루었으니, 이것이 바로 타락인간이 지금까지 살아오고 있는 지상지옥(地上地獄)이다. 지옥인간들은 하나님과의 종적인 관계가 끊어졌기 때문에 인간들 사이의 횡적인 유대를 이룰 수 없게 되었고, 따라서 이웃의 고통을 자신의 것으로서 체휼할 수 없게 되어, 마침내는 이웃을 해치는 행위를 자행하게 된 것이다.
Due to the Fall, human beings could not become temples of God; instead, they united with Satan and became his dwelling places. They failed to cultivate the divine nature; instead, they acquired an evil nature. People with evil nature have propagated evil through their children, constituting evil families, evil societies and an evil world. This is the hell on earth in which we have been living. In this hell, we cannot properly form cooperative horizontal relationships with one another because our vertical relationships with God have been severed. We perform deeds harmful to others because we cannot feel the pain and suffering of our neighbors as our own.
인간은 지상지옥(地上地獄)에서 살고 있기 때문에, 육신을 벗은 후에는 천상지옥(天上地獄)으로 가게 된다. 이와 같이 인간은 하나님 주권의 세계를 이루지 못하고 사탄 주권의 세계를 이루게 되었다. 사탄을 세상 임금(요 12 : 31), 또는 세상의 신(고후 4 : 4)이라고 하는 이유는 여기에 있는 것이다.
Once people have accustomed themselves to living in hell on earth, when they end their physical life, they naturally enter hell in the spirit world. We have not built the Kingdom of God, but instead established the sovereignty of Satan. For this reason, Satan is called the “ruler of this world” (John 12:31) and the “god of this world.” (II Cor. 4:4)
