제4절 세계대전
4.1 The Providential Causes of the World Wars
전쟁이란 언제나 정치, 경제, 사상 등이 원인이 되어 일어나게 되는 것이다. 그러나 이러한 것들은 어디까지나 외적인 원인에 불과하다. 거기에는 반드시 또 내적인 원인이 있음을 알아야 한다. 이것은 마치 인간의 행동에 내 외 양면의 원인이 있는 것과 같다. 즉 인간의 행동은 당면한 현실에 대응하려는 외적인 자유의지(自由意志)에 의하여 결정됨은 물론이거니와, 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적을 지향하여 하나님의 뜻에 순응하려는 내적인 자유의지에 의하여 결정되는 것도 있는 것이다. 그러므로 인간의 행동에 대한 선악(善惡)을 그 외적인 원인만으로 판단해서는 안 된다. 그런데 인간의 자유의지에 의하여 일어나는 행동과 행동의 세계적인 부딪침이 곧 세계대전(世界大戰)이기 때문에, 여기에도 내외 양면의 원인이 있다는 것을 알아야 한다. 따라서 세계대전을 정치, 경제, 사상 등 그 외적인 원인만을 중심하고 다루어 가지고는 그에 대한 섭리적인 의의를 파악할 수 없는 것이다.
Wars break out due to such factors as conflicts of political and economic interests and clashes of ideology. Yet these are merely external causes. There are also internal causes of wars, just as there are internal and external motives for every human action. Human actions are decided by the free will of the individual, who is trying both to respond externally to the situation with which he is confronted and to follow his internal tendency toward the Will of God and the advancement of His providence of restoration. Therefore, the good or evil of a human action should not be judged only by external motives. The same can be said of the world wars, which have resulted from the worldwide collision between the actions of numerous individuals arising from their free will. Accordingly, we cannot grasp the providential significance of the world wars by focusing only on conflicts of political and economic interests, ideological clashes and other such external causes.
What are the internal, providential causes of the world wars?
첫째, 주권을 빼앗기지 않으려는 사탄의 최후의 발악으로 인하여 세계대전은 일어나게 된다. 위에서도 이미 보아 온 바와 같이, 인간 시조(始祖)가 타락됨으로 인하여 원래 하나님이 이루시려던 원리세계(原理世界)를 사탄이 앞질러 원리형(原理型)의 비원리세계(非原理世界)로 이루어 나왔고, 하나님은 그 뒤를 따라 나오시면서 사탄 주관하의 이 비원리세계를 빼앗아 선의 판도를 넓히심으로써 점차적으로 원리세계를 복귀하는 섭리를 해 나오셨다. 따라서 복귀섭리노정(復歸攝理路程)에는 언제나 참것이 오기 전에 거짓 것이 먼저 나타나게 된다. 그리스도가 오시기 전에 적그리스도가 먼저 오리라 하신 것은 그 대표적인 예라 하겠다.
First, the world wars have resulted from Satan’s last desperate struggle to preserve his sovereignty. Since the Fall of the first human ancestors, Satan has been building defective, unprincipled imitations of God’s ideal world. Aiming to restore the ideal world of His Principle, God has been in pursuit, gradually expanding His dominion by reclaiming it from the unprincipled world under Satan’s bondage. (cf. Creation 1.1) Accordingly, in the course of the providence of restoration, a false representation of the ideal appears before the emergence of its true manifestation. The biblical prophecy that the antichrist will appear before the return of Christ is an illustration of this truth.
그런데 사탄을 중심한 악주권(惡主權)의 역사는 재림주님이 나타나심으로써 그 종말을 짓고 하나님을 중심한 선주권(善主權)의 역사로 바뀌게 되는 것이므로, 그때에 사탄은 최후의 발악을 하게 된다. 모세를 중심한 민족적 가나안 복귀노정에 있어서, 애급(埃及)을 떠나려는 이스라엘 선민(選民)에 대하여 사탄은 바로를 시켜서 최후의 발악을 하였기 때문에 하늘편에서는 3대 기적(三大奇蹟)으로써 그를 치고 떠났었던 것이다. 이와 같이 역사의 종말기에 있어서도 세계적 가나안 복귀노정을 출발하려는 하늘편에 대하여 사탄이 최후의 발악을 하기 때문에, 이것을 3차에 걸쳐 치는 것이 3차의 세계대전으로 나타나게 되는 것이다.
Human history under Satan’s evil sovereignty will end with the Second Advent of Christ. Then it will be transformed into the history of humanity abiding in the realm of God’s good sovereignty. At that time, Satan will put up a last-ditch fight. When the Israelites were about to leave Egypt in the national course to restore Canaan, Satan worked through the Pharaoh to wage a bitter struggle to keep them in bondage. By virtue of this, God’s side was entitled to strike him with three supernatural signs. Similarly, in the Last Days, Satan has been putting up his last struggle to undermine God’s side as it has prepared itself to embark upon the worldwide course to restore Canaan. God’s three counterattacks to Satan’s aggressions have manifested themselves as the three world wars.
둘째, 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 이룬 형의 세계를 사탄이 앞서 비원리적으로 이루어 왔으므로, 이것을 복귀하는 세계적인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세우기 위하여 세계대전(世界大戰)이 일어난다. 하나님은 인간을 창조하시고 그의 개성을 완성할 것과 자녀를 번식할 것과 피조세계(被造世界)를 주관할 것 등의 3대 축복을 하셨다(창 1 : 28). 따라서 인간은 이 축복을 이룸으로써 지상천국(地上天國)을 세워야 할 것이었다. 하나님은 인간을 창조하시고 이러한 축복을 하셨던 것이므로 그 인간이 타락되었다고 해서 이 축복을 파기하실 수는 없기 때문에, 타락한 인간이 사탄을 중심하고 그 축복형의 비원리세계를 앞질러 이루어 나아가는 것을 허락하시지 않을 수 없는 것이다. 따라서 인류역사의 종말에는 사탄을 중심한 개성, 사탄을 중심한 자녀번식, 사탄을 중심한 피조세계 주관 등 3대 축복 완성형의 비원리세계를 이루게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 하나님의 3대 축복을 복귀하는 세계적인 탕감조건을 세우기 위하여는, 사탄을 중심한 3대 축복 완성형의 비원리세계를 소생(蘇生)·장성(長成)·완성(完成)의 3단계에 걸쳐서 치는 3차의 세계대전이 일어나지 않을 수 없는 것이다.
Second, the three world wars have occurred in order to fulfill the worldwide indemnity conditions to restore the three great blessings. Upon creating human beings, God gave them three blessings: to reach individual perfection, multiply as an ideal family and have dominion over the creation. (Gen. 1:28) By fulfilling these blessings, our first ancestors were to build the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth. Since God Himself created human beings and blessed them, He did not annul these blessings just because they fell. God had to allow fallen people to build an unprincipled world that has imitated the three blessings, though defectively, under Satan’s leadership. Accordingly, at the consummation of human history, unprincipled worlds have emerged which have realized defectively the outward form of the three blessings: an individual championing Satan’s causes, multiplication of satanic children, and the conquest of the world under Satan’s domination. To fulfill the worldwide indemnity conditions to restore God’s three great blessings, three world conflicts must break out by which God can prevail over these satanic worlds through the three stages of formation, growth and completion.
셋째, 예수님의 3대 시험(三大試驗)을 세계적으로 넘게 하기 위하여 세계대전이 일어나게 된다. 예수님의 노정은 바로 성도들이 걸어야 할 노정이므로, 성도들은 예수님이 광야에서 당하신 3대 시험을 개인적으로, 가정적으로, 국가적으로, 더 나아가 세계적으로 넘어야 한다. 그리하여 전인류가 예수님의 이 3대 시험을 3차에 걸쳐 세계적으로 넘어가는 것이 바로 이 3차에 걸친 세계대전인 것이다.
Third, the three world wars have occurred so that all humanity may overcome on the world level the three temptations by which Satan tempted Jesus. As Jesus’ disciples, Christians are to follow the course of their Teacher and overcome the three temptations which he confronted in the wilderness as individuals, families, nations and at the world level.
넷째, 주권복귀(主權復歸)를 위한 세계적인 탕감조건을 세우기 위하여 세계대전이 일어나게 된다. 인간이 타락되지 않고 성장기간(成長期間)의 3단계를 거쳐서 완성되었더라면 하나님 주권의 세계가 이루어졌을 것이다. 그러므로 이 타락세계(墮落世界)를 가인 아벨 두 형의 세계로 분립한 다음, 아벨형의 하늘세계가 가인형의 사탄세계를 쳐서 가인이 아벨을 죽인 것을 세계적으로 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)하여, 하나님 주권의 세계를 찾아 세우는 최종의 전쟁을 수행함에 있어서도 3단계를 거쳐야 하기 때문에 3차의 세계대전이 오게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 세계대전은 종적인 섭리노정(攝理路程)에서 주권복귀를 위하여 있었던 모든 싸움의 목적을 횡적으로 탕감복귀해야 하는 최종적인 전쟁인 것이다.
Fourth, the world wars have taken place to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition to restore God’s sovereignty. Had the first human beings not fallen but reached perfection by passing through the three stages of the growing period, they would have realized the world of God’s sovereignty. Similarly, worldwide restoration must pass through three stages. The restoration of this world requires that it first be divided into Cain-type and Abel-type worlds, and that there be three final wars in which the heavenly, Abel-type world prevails over the satanic, Cain-type world. This is a condition to restore through worldwide indemnity Cain’s murder of Abel. After that, the world of God’s sovereignty can be established. Accordingly, the world wars are the final global conflicts in human history, restoring horizontally through indemnity the purpose of all the wars that have been waged for the restoration of God’s sovereignty in the vertical course of the providence.
Ⅱ. 제1차 세계대전
4.2 The First World War
4.2.1 Summary of the Providence in the First World War
가인 아벨 두 형의 인생관으로 말미암아 일어났던 가인 아벨 두 형의 민주주의 혁명으로 인하여 전제군주정체(專制君主政體)는 붕괴되었으며, 이에 따라서 일어난 산업혁명(産業革命)은 봉건주의사회(封建主義社會)를 자본주의사회(資本主義社會)로 이끌어 마침내는 제국주의사회(帝國主義社會)가 오게 되었었다. 그러므로 제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)은 정치적인 면에서 보면 아벨형의 민주주의에 의하여 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적을 지향하는 민주주의정체(民主主義政體)와 가인형의 민주주의에 의하여 복귀섭리의 목적을 반하는 전체주의정체(全體主義政體)와의 전쟁이었으며, 한편 또 경제적인 면에서 보면 하늘편 제국주의와 사탄편 제국주의와의 전쟁이었던 것이다. 따라서 이 대전은 일면 구미 제국(歐美諸國) 중의 선진 자본주의 국가들과 후진 자본주의 국가들이 식민지(植民地) 쟁탈을 위하여 벌인 전쟁이기도 하였던 것이다.
Absolute monarchy had come to an end as a consequence of the Cain-type and Abel-type democratic revolutions, which had arisen out of the Cain-type and Abel-type views of life. The Industrial Revolution which followed cleared away the remnants of feudalism and led to the ascendancy of capitalism. This was followed by the age of imperialism. In the political sphere, the First World War was a conflict between Abel-type democracies, which pursued the goal of the providence of restoration, and authoritarian states where Cain-type democratic ideals were thriving and which stood in opposition to the goals of the providence of restoration. It was fought between the imperialist nations on God’s side and the imperialist nations on Satan’s side. In terms of economic interests, this war was a conflict between more established and newly industrializing capitalist nations over colonies.
또 제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)을 사상적인 면에서 보면, 당시의 기독교를 박해하던 회회교국가(回回敎國家)인 터어키 및 이것을 지지하던 독일이나 오스트리아 등 가인형의 국가군과, 주로 기독교를 신봉하던 영(英)·미(美)·불(佛) 등 아벨형의 국가군 사이에 벌어진 전쟁이었던 것이다. 결론적으로 제1차 대전은 아벨형 인생관의 목적을 실현해야 할 민주주의가 소생적(蘇生的)인 승리의 기반을 조성하는 전쟁이었던 것이다.
In the sphere of religion and ideology, the Cain-type nations included Turkey, a Muslim nation persecuting Christianity, and its allies, Germany and Austria-Hungary. They fought the Abel-type nations of Great Britain, the United States, France and Russia, which generally upheld Christianity. At the conclusion of the First World War, the Abel-type democracies had gained victory at the formation stage.
4.2.2 What Decides God’s Side and Satan’s Side?
하늘편과 사탄편은 하나님의 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 방향을 기준으로 하여 결정된다. 하나님의 복귀섭리의 방향과 동일한 방향을 취하거나 간접적으로나마 이 방향에 동조하는 입장을 하늘편이라 하고, 이와 반대되는 입장을 사탄편이라 한다. 그러므로 하늘편이냐 사탄편이냐 하는 것은 우리의 상식이나 양심의 판단과 반드시 일치한다고는 할 수 없는 것이다. 모세가 애급인(埃及人)을 죽인 사실은 하나님의 섭리를 모르는 사람은 누구나 악이라고 할 것이다. 그러나 복귀섭리의 입장에서 보면 그것은 선이었다. 뿐만 아니라 이스라엘 민족이 아무 이유도 없이 가나안 땅을 침입하여 수많은 이방민(異邦民)을 전멸시킨 사실도, 하나님의 섭리를 모르는 자리에서 보면 악이라고 하지 않을 수 없을 것이다. 그러나 이것도 역시 복귀섭리의 입장에서 보면 선이었던 것이다. 가나안 민족 중에 이스라엘 민족보다 훨씬 더 양심적인 사람이 있었다고 해도 당시의 그들은 일률적으로 사탄편이었고, 이스라엘은 일률적으로 하늘편이었던 까닭이다.
The question of which nations are on God’s side and which are on Satan’s side is decided based on the direction of God’s providence of restoration. Those who are in line with the direction of God’s providence or are acting in concert with that direction, even indirectly, are on the side of God, while those who take an opposing position are on the side of Satan. Therefore, whether or not an individual or nation belongs to God’s side or Satan’s side is not always in agreement with the judgment of our common sense or conscience. For example, someone who is ignorant of God’s providence may judge that Moses’ killing of the Egyptian taskmaster was evil. Yet, it may be regarded as a good act because it was in line with God’s providence. Likewise, the Israelites invaded the land of Canaan and killed many Canaanites seemingly without much justification. To someone ignorant of God’s providence, their action might seem evil and cruel; nevertheless, it was just in the sight of God. Even if there were more good-hearted people among the Canaanites than among the Israelites, at that time the Canaanites collectively belonged to Satan’s side, while the Israelites collectively belonged to God’s side.
더 나아가 이 예를 종교면(宗敎面)에서 들어 보기로 하자. 모든 종교는 그 목적이 동일하게 선에 있기 때문에 그것은 모두 하늘편이다. 그러나 어떤 종교가 사명적으로 보아 그보다 더 하늘 앞에 가까운 종교가 가는 길을 방해하게 될 때 그 종교는 사탄편에 속하게 된다. 또 각 종교는 시대적인 사명을 가지고 있기 때문에, 어떤 종교가 그의 사명기(使命期)가 지난 후, 다음 시대의 새로운 사명을 담당하고 나타난 종교의 길 앞에 장애가 되는 입장에 서게 될 때 그 종교는 사탄편이 된다. 예수님이 나타나시기 전에는 유대교나 그 민족은 모두 하늘편이었다. 그러나 그들이 유대교의 목적을 이루시기 위하여 새로운 사명을 가지고 오셨던 예수님을 박해하게 되었을 때에는, 그들은 과거에 아무리 하나님을 잘 섬겨 왔다고 하더라도 그 날부터 사탄편이 되지 않을 수 없었던 것이다.
Let us further investigate this concept in the sphere of religion. Since the goal of every religion is goodness, every one of them belongs to God’s side. However, when a religion obstructs the path of another religion which stands closer to the center of God’s providence, it will find itself standing on Satan’s side. A religion is given a mission for its age, but if, after its time of responsibility has passed, it becomes an obstacle to an emerging religion which comes with a new mission for the next age, then it stands on the side of Satan. Before the coming of Jesus, Judaism and its believers stood on God’s side. However, when they persecuted Jesus, who came with a new mission – which among other things would have fulfilled the purpose of Judaism – they moved to the side of Satan, irrespective of how faithfully they had served God in the past.
근세(近世) 이후에 있어서는 아벨형의 인생관의 계통은 모두 하늘편이요, 가인형의 인생관의 계통은 모두 사탄편이다. 이러한 의미에서 유물론자(唯物論者)는 가인형의 인생관의 결실이기 때문에, 인간적으로 볼 때 아무리 양심적이고 남을 위해 헌신을 한다고 해도 그는 사탄편이다. 따라서 공산세계는 사탄편 세계가 되는 것이다. 이에 반하여 신앙의 자유가 허여(許與)되어 있는 민주세계는 아벨형의 인생관으로 존립하는 세계이기 때문에 하늘편이 된다.
In the modern world, systems which espouse the Abel-type view of life belong to God’s side while those which espouse the Cain-type view of life stand on Satan’s side. For example, no matter how ethical and sacrificial a materialistic thought rooted in the Cain-type view of life may appear from a humanistic perspective, it still belongs to Satan’s side. For this reason, the communist world can be judged to be the satanic world. On the other hand, since the democratic world, which grants religious freedom, is based on the Abel-type view of life, it may be judged to be on God’s side.
전편에서 이미 논술한 바와 같이, 기독교(基督敎)는 모든 종교의 목적을 이루기 위한 최종적인 사명을 가지고 있는 중심 종교로 세워졌기 때문에, 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 입장에서 보면 이 섭리의 목적을 지향하는 기독교의 길을 방해하는 것은 무엇이든지 사탄편이 되는 것이다. 따라서 기독교를 박해하거나 또는 그의 발전을 직접 혹은 간접으로 방해하는 국가는 모두 사탄편이 된다. 그러므로 제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)에 있어서 영(英)·미(美)·불(佛)·로(露) 등 연합국(聯合國)측의 주동국가들은 기독교국가일 뿐 아니라, 회회교국(回回敎國)인 터어키 내에서 박해를 받고 있는 기독교도를 해방하려 했던 국가들이었기 때문에 그것들은 모두 하늘편이 되고, 독일이나 오스트리아 등 동맹국(同盟國)측의 주동국가들은 기독교를 박해하는 회회교국가였던 터어키를 지지하였으므로 그것들은 모두 터어키와 함께 사탄편이었던 것이다.
Christianity was established as the central religion with the ultimate mission to fulfill the goals of all religions. (cf. Eschatology 2.3) Hence, any nation which persecutes Christianity or obstructs its progress, either directly or indirectly, stands on Satan’s side. In the First World War, the Allied Powers led by Great Britain, the United States, France and Russia were Christian nations; moreover, they had been fighting to liberate the Christians under persecution in Turkey. Thus, they stood on God’s side. On the other hand, Germany and Austria-Hungary, the leading Central Powers, supported Turkey, a Muslim nation which persecuted Christianity. Therefore, together with Turkey, they stood on Satan’s side.
4.2.3 The Providential Causes behind the First World War
복귀섭리(復歸攝理)로 보아 제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)이 일어나게 된 내적인 원인의 그 첫째는, 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 복귀하는 소생적(蘇生的)인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세계적으로 세우려는 데 있었다. 이미 위에서 밝힌 바와 같이, 사탄은 하나님이 아담을 중심하고 이루시려던 세계와 유사한 형의 세계를 앞질러 이루어 나왔기 때문에, 역사의 종말에 이르러서는 한 때 반드시 사탄편 아담형의 인물을 중심하고 3대 축복의 소생급 완성형의 비원리세계(非原理世界)가 나타나게 된다. 따라서 하늘편에서는 이 세계를 쳐서 하나님을 중심하고 그 축복을 완성한 원리세계(原理世界)를 복귀하는 소생적인 탕감조건을 세계적으로 찾아 세우지 않으면 아니 된다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 제1차 세계대전이 일어나게 되었던 것이다.
What were the providential, internal causes of the First World War? The First World War had to take place, first, to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition to restore God’s three great blessings at the formation stage. Satan has been constructing in advance a defective imitation of God’s ideal world, which was to have been established by Adam. Hence, there should appear at the end of history an unprincipled world which has realized a distorted, outward form of the three blessings at the formation stage, led by an antitype of Adam on Satan’s side. God’s side should then prevail over this unprincipled world to fulfill the indemnity condition.
그러므로 제1차 세계대전을 도발한 독일의 카이젤은 사탄편 아담의 소생급(蘇生級) 개성완성형의 인물로서, 범게르만주의를 주창함으로써 자녀 번식의 형을 이루었고, 세계제패(世界制覇)의 정책을 세움으로써 만물 주관의 형을 이루어 사탄을 중심한 3대 축복(三大祝福)의 소생급 완성형의 비원리세계(非原理世界)를 이루었던 것이다. 따라서 하늘편이 이러한 사탄편을 치고 승리함으로써, 하나님을 중심하고 3대 축복을 완성한 세계를 복귀하는 소생적인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세계적으로 세우기 위하여 제1차 세계대전은 일어나지 않으면 안 되었던 것이다.
In fact, Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1941) of Germany, who launched the First World War, was this antitype of Adam on Satan’s side. He was in the formation-stage likeness of one who has attained individual perfection. He displayed the form of having fulfilled the blessing of multiplying children by advocating Pan-Germanism, and displayed a form of dominion over the creation by implementing his policy of world hegemony. In this manner, the Kaiser realized an unprincipled world completing a satanic imitation of the three great blessings at the formation stage. The First World War was to fulfill the worldwide formation-stage indemnity condition to restore, in the future, the world where the three great blessings will actually be completed centering on God.
둘째로는, 예수님에 대한 사탄의 첫째 시험을 하늘편 지상인으로 하여금 세계적으로 넘게 하기 위하여 제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)이 있어야 한다. 그러므로 예수님이 당하셨던 시험을 중심하고 보면, 하늘편에서는 제1차 대전에 승리하여 하나님의 제1축복(第一祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀할 수 있는 탕감조건을 세워야 하였던 것이다. 왜냐하면 예수님이 광야에서 첫째 시험에 승리함으로써 돌로 표시된 자신을 찾아 세워 개성복귀(個性復歸)의 기대를 조성하셨던 것과 같이, 하늘편에서 제1차 세계대전에 승리함으로 말미암아 사탄편 세계와 그 중심이 망한 반면에, 하늘편 세계가 세워지고 그 중심인 재림주(再臨主)님이 탄생하시어 개성을 복귀할 수 있는 기대를 조성하지 않으면 안 되었기 때문이다.
Second, the First World War took place in order to have people on God’s side collectively overcome Jesus’ first temptation on the world level. In light of the meaning of Jesus’ three temptations, we can recognize that God’s side had to prevail in the First World War to fulfill the indemnity condition to restore God’s first blessing worldwide. By prevailing in his first temptation in the wilderness, Jesus recovered himself, symbolized by the rock, and laid the foundation to restore perfection of individual character. Likewise, by prevailing in the First World War, God’s side not only was to defeat Satan’s world and its center, it also was to build God’s world and lay the foundation for its own center, Christ at the Second Coming. This was to be the basis upon which the returning Christ could be born and perfect his individual character.
셋째로는, 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 소생적(蘇生的)인 기대를 조성하기 위하여 제1차 세계대전이 있어야 한다. 우리는 이미 후편 제4장 제7절 Ⅱ 6에서, 전제주의사회(專制主義社會)를 타파하고 하나님의 주권을 복귀하기 위한 최종적인 정체(政體)로서 민주주의정체(民主主義政體)가 나오게 되었다고 논하였거니와, 결과적인 사실이 보여준 바와 같이, 제1차 대전에서 하늘편 국가가 승리하여 정치 판도를 크게 넓힘으로써 세계를 기독교화(基督敎化)하고, 하늘편의 광범하고도 확고한 정치 및 경제의 기대를 조성함으로써 민주주의의 소생적인 기대를 확립함과 동시에 하늘편 주권복귀의 소생적인 기대를 이룩하지 않으면 안 되었던 것이다.
Third, the First World War took place in order to lay the formation-stage foundation for the restoration of God’s sovereignty. Democracy arose to bring an end to authoritarian monarchic regimes and as the final political system with the mission to restore God’s sovereignty. (cf. Parallels 7.2.6) In the First World War, God’s side was responsible to be victorious and expand its political territory to Christianize the world. By thus establishing a vast and firm political and economic foundation, it would secure the formation-stage foundation for the democratic world and, at the same time, the formation-stage foundation to restore God’s sovereignty.
4.2.4 The Providential Results of the First World War
제1차 세계대전(第一次世界大戰)에서 하늘편이 승리함으로 말미암아 하나님의 3대 축복 (三大祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀하기 위한 소생적(蘇生的)인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세우게 되었고, 예수님에 대한 사탄의 시험을 세계적으로 넘는 입장에서 보면 하나님의 제1축복(第一祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀할 수 있는 탕감조건을 세웠으며, 여기에서 민주주의가 소생적인 승리를 거두게 되어 하늘편 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 소생적인 기대를 조성하였다. 그리고 사탄편 세계와 그 세계의 왕(王)으로 군림했던 카이젤이 패망한 반면에, 하늘편 세계의 소생적인 승리의 기대가 세워짐으로써, 하늘편 세계의 소생적인 승리의 기대가 세워짐으로써 하늘편 세계의 왕으로 오실 재림주님이 탄생하실 수 있는 기대가 조성되었다. 그리고 이에 뒤이어 사탄편의 재림주 상징형인 스탈린을 중심한 공산세계(共産世界)가 일어나게 되었다.
The victory of the Allied Powers in the First World War fulfilled the formation-stage indemnity condition to restore God’s three great blessings worldwide. By overcoming Jesus’ first temptation on the worldwide level, they fulfilled the indemnity condition to restore God’s first blessing worldwide. The victory of democracy also established the formation-stage foundation for the restoration of God’s sovereignty. With the defeat of the satanic world and its ruler, the Kaiser, the world on God’s side won the formation-stage victory and laid the foundation for the birth of the returning Christ, who is destined to be the Lord of God’s world. Contemporaneous with this, communism was established in Russia. Stalin soon rose to power as the antitype of Christ at the Second Advent on Satan’s side.
왜냐하면 재림주님은 공생공영공의주의(共生共榮共義主義)의 지상천국이상(地上天國理想)을 가지고 오시는 분이시므로, 사탄편에서는 하늘편의 이러한 이상을 앞질러 먼저 이루기 위하여 사탄편 재림주형의 인물을 중심하고 지상천국형의 세계를 이루려 하기 때문이었다. 그러므로 제1차 세계대전이 하늘편 승리로 끝남으로써 메시아 재강림(再降臨)의 기대가 조성되었고, 그때부터 재림역사(再臨役事)의 소생기(蘇生期)는 시작되었던 것이다.
Since Christ comes with the ideals of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth – interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values – the satanic side tries to realize these ideals in advance by building an imitation of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, led by the satanic counterpart to Christ at the Second Advent. In conclusion, with the victory of God’s side in the First World War, the foundation was laid for the Second Advent of the Messiah. From that time, the formation stage of the dispensation of the Second Advent commenced.

이미 중세 이후의 역사에서 보아 온 대로, 민주주의(民主主義)의 근본정신은 아벨형 인생관의 목적을 실현하려는 데 있는 것이다. 그러므로 민주주의는 인간 본성의 내외 양면의 성향을 따라 필연적으로 창조이상(創造理想)의 세계를 추구하게 된다. 그러므로 제2차 세계대전(第二次世界大戰)은 제1차 대전으로 인하여 소생적(蘇生的)인 승리의 기대 위에 서게 된 민주주의가, 인간 본성이 지향하는 길을 막는 전체주의(全體主義)와 싸워서 그 장성적(長成的)인 승리의 기반을 조성하는 전쟁이었던 것이다.
The spiritual origin of modern democracy lies in the people’s striving to realize the values of the Abel-type view of life. Democracy follows the internal and external aspirations of the original human nature and will certainly develop in the direction of God’s ideal world. Fascism, on the other hand, constrains people from following the aspirations of their original nature. In the Second World War, democracy, while standing upon the formation stage victory attained in the First World War, defeated fascism and secured victory at the growth stage.

1930년대에 있어서 경제공황(經濟恐慌)이 세계적으로 휘몰아쳤을 때, 특히 이러한 역경을 극복하기 어려운 고립된 환경에 처해 있었던 독(獨)·일(日)·이(伊) 등의 국가들은 그 난경(難境)을 타개하는 길을 전체주의에서 찾으려 하였던 것이다. 그러면 이 전체주의란 무엇인가?
When economic depression overwhelmed the world in the 1930s, some nations tried to break out of it by adopting fascism. This was the road taken by Germany, Japan and Italy, which felt isolated and beset by adversity.
전체주의는 근대국가(近代國家)의 민주주의 정치사상(政治思想)의 기본인 인간의 개성에 대한 존중과 언론(言論), 출판(出版), 집회(集會), 결사(結社)의 자유와 국가에 대한 기본적인 인권 및 의회제도(議會制度) 등을 부정하고, 민족 국가의 ‘전체’만을 궁극의 실재로 봄으로써, 개인이나 단체는 민족 국가 전체의 존립과 발전을 위하여 있어야 한다고 주장하는 정치이념(政治理念)이다. 그러므로 이 제도하에서의 자유는 개인이 주장하고 향유할 수 있는 권리가 아니고 전체 앞에 바쳐야 할 하나의 의무요 또한 희생으로 정의된다.
What, then, is fascism? Fascism denies the fundamental values of modern democracy, including respect for the individual and his basic rights, freedoms of speech, the press and association, and the parliamentary system. Race or nationality is the ultimate value, to be upheld by a strong nation-state. Individuals and institutions exist only for the benefit of the state.
전체주의(全體主義)의 지도원리는 모든 권위를 다수(多數)에 두지 않고 한 사람의 지배자에게 둔다. 그리하여 그 지배자의 의지로써 국가 민족의 이념으로 삼으려는 것이다. 이러한 지도이념에 의한 전체주의 정치체제의 실례를 들어 보면, 이태리에 있어서의 뭇솔리니, 독일에 있어서의 히틀러, 일본에 있어서의 군벌(軍閥)에 의한 독재정체(獨裁政體)들이 각각 그것에 해당한다고 하겠다.
Under fascism, individuals cannot claim freedom as their inviolable right; they are to sacrifice their freedom in their duty to serve the state. The guiding political principle of fascism holds that all power and authority should be entrusted in one supreme leader rather than distributed among people. The personal will of the leader dictates the governing ideology for the entire nation. Mussolini in Italy, Hitler in Germany, and the leaders of Japan’s militaristic government were dictators of the fascist type.
3. 제2차 세계대전에 있어서의 하늘편 국가와 사탄편 국가
4.3.3 The Nations on God’s Side and the Nations on Satan’s Side in the Second World War
제2차 세계대전(第二次世界大戰)은 민주주의로 결탁된 미(美)·영(英)·불(佛)의 하늘편 국가와 전체주의로 결탁된 독(獨)·일(日)·이(伊)의 사탄편 국가와의 대전(對戰)이었다. 그러면 어찌하여 전자는 하늘편이고 후자는 사탄편인가? 전자는 아벨형의 인생관을 중심으로 하여, 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 최종단계의 정치이념으로 세워진 민주주의를 근본이념으로 하는 국가들이었기 때문에 하늘편이었고, 후자는 그 정치이념이 가인형의 인생관을 중심한 반민주주의적(反民主主義的)인 전체주의국가(全體主義國家)들이었기 때문에 사탄편이었다. 그리고 또 전자는 기독교(基督敎)를 지지하는 국가들이었고, 후자는 반기독교적(反基督敎的)인 입장에 섰었던 국가들이었기 때문에 각각 하늘편과 사탄편으로 구별되었던 것이다.
In the Second World War, an alliance of the democratic nations of the United States, Great Britain and France led the nations on God’s side. Satan’s side was the alliance of the fascist nations: Germany, Japan and Italy. What determined that the former stood on God’s side and the latter on Satan’s side? The Allies stood on God’s side because their political systems were democracies, the political system for the final stage in the providence of restoration founded upon the Abel-type view of life. The Axis Powers, on the other hand, stood on Satan’s side because they upheld fascism, which was anti-democratic and stemmed from the Cain-type view of life. Moreover, the Allies and Axis Powers were separated into God’s side and Satan’s side because the former nations supported Christianity while the latter opposed and persecuted Christianity.
이제 그 내용을 좀더 밝혀 보기로 하자. 당시대에 있어서 추축국(樞軸國)의 중심이었던 독일은 인간의 기본 자유를 박탈하였고, 그의 사상통제는 종교분야에까지 미쳤던 것이다. 즉 히틀러는 로마 교황(敎皇)과는 별도로 협약(協約)을 맺고, 엄중한 게르만의 원시적 종교사상을 도입하여 민족적 종교를 창설한 후, 그 전국 주교(主敎) 밑에 모든 신교(新敎)를 통할하려 하였기 때문에 신교는 물론 구교(舊敎)까지 이에 강력한 반대운동을 하였던 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 히틀러는 6백만의 유대인들을 학살하였다.
Germany, the leader of the Axis Powers, deprived people of their basic freedoms, and its ideological oppression denied them their religious freedom. Furthermore, Hitler massacred six million Jews. After concluding a concordat with the pope, Hitler attempted to subordinate the churches under the control of cooperative bishops while corrupting Christianity into a nationalistic neo-paganism based on primitive Germanic religion. In protest, some Protestants and Catholics put up bitter resistance.
그리고 대전(大戰) 당시의 일본의 군벌(軍閥)은 한국의 각 교회에 일본 신도(神道)의 가미다나(神棚)를 강제로 설치케 하는 한편, 기독교인(基督敎人)들을 일본 신사(神社)에 강제로 끌어내어 참배케 하였고, 이에 불응하는 신도들을 투옥 학살하였다. 특히 일본의 속박을 피하여 자유를 찾아 만주에 이민(移民)한 한국 기독교인들을 도처에서 집단 학살하였던 것이다. 이와 같이 대전 말기에 이르면서 그들이 강행하였던 한국 기독교 말살정책은 실로 극악한 것이었다.
Japanese militarists during the Second World War forced every church in Korea to install a kamidana, an altar for the Japanese Shinto gods, and compelled Korean Christians to worship at Shinto shrines. Those Christians who did not comply were imprisoned or killed. Korean Christians who had fled to Manchuria in search of religious freedom were brutally massacred. These measures against Korean Christianity were intensified toward the end of the war.
그리고 이태리는 사탄편에 섰던 독일과 하나되어 추축국가가 되었으며, 뭇솔리니는 국민 사상을 통합하기 위하여 고의로 구교(舊敎)를 국교로 세움으로써 하나님의 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)에 역행(逆行)하는 길을 걸었다. 이러한 근거에서 당시의 독(獨)·일(日)·이(伊)는 함께 사탄편의 국가들로 규정되는 것이다.
Italy supported Germany’s cause as one of the Axis Powers. Against the general thrust of God’s providence, Mussolini promoted Catholicism as the state religion with the selfish intention to use it for unifying the people under his fascist regime. On these grounds, Germany, Japan and Italy during the war may be classified as the nations on Satan’s side.
4.3.4 The Providential Roles of the Three Nations on God’s Side and Satan’s Side
상세한 것은 다음 항목에서 논술될 것이나, 제2차 세계대전(第二次世界大戰)은 예수님을 중심하고 이루려다가 이루지 못하였던 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 복귀하는 장성적(長成的)인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세계적으로 찾아 세우기 위하여 일어났던 것이다. 그런데 원래 하나님의 3대 축복이 이루어지지 않았던 것은 아담, 해와, 천사장(天使長)의 3존재가 타락된 때문이었다. 그러므로 3대 축복의 복귀에도 그것들을 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)하기 위한 3존재의 관여가 필요하기 때문에, 후아담으로 오셨던 예수님과 해와의 신성(神性)으로 오신 성신(聖神)과(전편 제7장 제4절 Ⅰ) 천사장의 3존재가 합하여서 비로소 영적 구원섭리를 이루시어 하나님의 3대 축복을 영적으로 복귀하셨던 것이다. 따라서 예수님을 중심한 3대 축복을 복귀하기 위한 장성적인 탕감조건을 세계적으로 세워야 할 제2차 세계대전도 아담, 해와, 천사장을 상징하는 하늘편 국가들이 중심이 되어 동일한 형을 갖춘 사탄편 국가들과 싸워 이겨서 그것을 탕감복귀하는 조건을 세우지 않으면 아니 된다. 그러므로 이것을 알고 있는 사탄은 이 섭리에 앞질러 사탄편 아담, 해와, 천사장형의 국가들을 먼저 단합하게 하여, 하늘편의 그러한 형의 국가들에게 공세를 취하게 하였던 것이다.
One purpose behind the Second World War was to fulfill the worldwide condition of indemnity at the growth stage to restore God’s three great blessings, as was meant to occur at the time of Jesus. In the beginning, it was due to the Fall of Adam, Eve and the Archangel that God’s three great blessings were not realized. Therefore, in the restoration of the three blessings, there necessarily have to be three actors taking these respective roles. Thus, God spiritually restored the three blessings in the providence of spiritual salvation through the joint efforts of the resurrected Jesus as the second Adam, the Holy Spirit representing Eve, (cf. Christology 4.1) and angels. Accordingly, during the Second World War, the three nations on God’s side representing Adam, Eve and the Archangel led the fight against the three nations on Satan’s side, which also represented Adam, Eve and the Archangel. The victory of the nations on God’s side would make a growth-stage indemnity condition for the restoration of the three great blessings. Satan, who was aware of this providence, took the lead by mustering the three nations representing Adam, Eve and the Archangel on his side and had them attack the three nations on God’s side.
그리하여 미국은 남성국가로서 하늘편 아담을, 영국은 여성국가로서 하늘편 해와를, 그리고 불란서(佛蘭西)는 중간적인 국가로서 하늘편의 천사장을 각각 상징하였고, 독일은 남성국가로서 사탄편 아담을, 일본은 여성국가로서 사탄편 해와를, 그리고 이태리는 중간적인 국가로서 사탄편의 천사장을 각각 상징하였던 것이다. 그 앞서 제1차 세계대전에 있어서의 미(美)·영(英)·불(佛)과 독(獨)·오(墺)·토(土)도 역시 각각 이러한 유형으로 편성된 소생적(蘇生的)인 상징형으로서의 하늘편과 사탄편의 국가들이었던 것이다.
The United States, as a masculine type of nation, represented Adam on God’s side. Great Britain, as a feminine type of nation, represented Eve on God’s side. France, as a mixed type of nation, represented the Archangel on God’s side. On Satan’s side, Germany, as a masculine type of nation, represented Adam; Japan, as a feminine type of nation, represented Eve; and Italy, as a mixed type of nation, represented the Archangel. In the First World War, the United States, Great Britain and France had represented at the formation stage these three positions on God’s side, while Germany, Austria and Turkey took these positions on Satan’s side.
그러면 제2차 대전에 있어서 사탄편 국가인 소련은 왜 하늘편에 가담하게 되었던가? 교황을 중심한 서구의 중세사회(中世社會)가 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 목적을 이룰 수 없는 입장에 서게 되었을 때, 하나님은 이것을 가인 아벨 두 형의 인생관의 세계로 분립하여 공산(共産)과 민주(民主)의 두 세계를 이루어 나아가는 섭리를 하시지 않을 수 없게 되었었다. 그런데 봉건사회(封建社會)나 전제군주사회(專制君主社會)나 제국주의사회(帝國主義社會)는 모두 이러한 섭리를 이루는 데 있어서 하늘편이 가는 길을 막는 동시에 사탄편이 가는 궁극의 길도 막는 것이 되었기 때문에, 하늘편과 사탄편이 합하여 그 사회를 타파하게 되었던 것이다.
The Soviet Union, a nation on Satan’s side, participated in the Second World War on God’s side. How was it possible? When medieval society could not fulfill its providential purpose, it became a hindrance to both God’s side and Satan’s side, which then divided and began developing along paths leading to the maturation of the democratic world and the communist world. The Cain-type and Abel-type views of life worked in tandem to break down medieval feudal society and later, absolute monarchy and imperialism.
복귀섭리(復歸攝理)는 시대의 흐름을 따라서 발전한다. 따라서 하나님의 복귀섭리를 앞질러 이루어 나아가는 비원리세계(非原理世界)도 시대의 흐름을 따라서 사탄의 목적을 지향하여 진전하지 않을 수 없게 된다. 그러므로 사탄세계에 있어서도 낡은 사회는 진보적인 사회를 이루는 데 장애가 되기 때문에 그것을 청산하는 싸움을 하게 되는 것이다.
Just as God’s providence progresses while riding on the currents of its time, Satan’s effort to build an unprincipled imitation of the ideal world is also bound to the currents of its time. When the prevailing social order obstructs the formation of new societies, including those furthering Satan’s goals, Satan joins in the fight to destroy it.
이러한 역사적인 추세에 의하여, 제2차 세계대전(第二次世界大戰)에 있어서의 전체주의(全體主義)는 하늘편에 있어서 그러한 것처럼 사탄편이 가는 길에 있어서도 역시 장애가 되었던 것이다. 그런데 하나님은 사탄편이 공산주의세계를 이루는 것을 탕감복귀섭리상 일시적으로나마 허락하시지 않을 수 없었기 때문에, 소련이 하늘편 국가와 협력하여 전체주의국가를 타도함으로써 공산세계가 조속히 그로서의 결실을 하도록 하셨던 것이다. 그러나 제2차 세계대전이 끝나자마자 민주와 공산의 두 세계는 물과 기름같이 갈라지게 되는 것이다.
In a similar fashion, fascism had become an obstacle to both Satan’s side and God’s side. Because the providence of restoration through indemnity required that God temporarily permit Satan’s side to form the communist world, the Soviet Union in the Second World War was allowed to join forces with the nations on God’s side to destroy fascism, in order that it might quickly build up its communist state. Nevertheless, as soon as the Second World War was over, the communist world and the democratic world separated like oil and water.
4.3.5 The Providential Causes behind the Second World War
복귀섭리로 보아 제2차 세계대전이 일어나게 된 내적인 원인의 그 첫째는, 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 복귀하는 장성적(長成的)인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세계적으로 세우려는 데 있었다. 하나님은 아담이 타락됨으로 인하여, 제2차로 후아담 된 예수님을 보내시어 그를 중심하고 하나님의 3대 축복을 완성한 세계를 복귀하려 하셨던 것이다. 그러나 예수님은 유대인들의 불신으로 십자가에 돌아가심으로써 이것을 영적으로만 이루셨던 것이다. 한편 사탄은 또 예수님이 이루시려던 그 세계와 유사한 형의 세계를 앞질러 이루어 나아가는 것이다. 그러므로 역사의 종말에 이르러서는 반드시 사탄편 예수형의 인물을 중심하고 3대 축복의 장성급 완성형의 비원리세계(非原理世界)가 이루어지게 된다. 따라서 이 세계를 쳐서 하나님을 중심하고 그 축복을 완성한 원리세계(原理世界)로 복귀하는 장성적인 탕감조건을 세계적으로 찾아 세우지 않으면 아니 된다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 제2차 세계대전이 일어나게 되는 것이다.
The internal, providential causes behind the Second World War were as follows: First, the war broke out to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition at the growth stage to restore God’s three great blessings. The ideal world where God’s three blessings are fulfilled, which could not be realized by Adam due to the Fall, was to have been realized by Jesus, whom God sent as the Second Adam. Yet this ideal was realized only spiritually because Jesus died on the cross. Since Satan tries to realize in advance a defective imitation of the ideal world, at the consummation of history, there will surely emerge an unprincipled world which has realized defectively the outward form of the three great blessings at the growth stage under the leadership of a satanic antitype of Jesus. God’s side must prevail over this world and thereby fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition at the growth stage required for the restoration of the ideal world, where the three great blessings are fully realized centering on God.
이 사탄편 예수형의 인물이 바로 히틀러였다. 그러므로 히틀러는 그 사상이나 그 독신생활(獨身生活)이나 그의 비참한 죽음이나 또는 행방불명(行方不明) 된 그의 시체 등 모든 면에 있어서, 그 뜻을 반대로 했을 뿐 예수님의 그것들과 유사하였던 것이다. 따라서 제2차 세계대전을 도발한 독일의 히틀러는 사탄편 아담의 장성급 개성완성형의 인물로서 범게르만주의를 주창함으로써 자녀 번식의 형을 이루었고, 세계적화(世界赤化)의 정책을 수립함으로써 만물 주관의 형을 이루어 사탄을 중심한 3대 축복의 장성급 완성형의 비원리세계를 이루었던 것이다. 여기에서 하늘편은 제2차 세계대전에서 승리함으로써 3대 축복을 완성한 세계를 복귀하는 장성적인 탕감조건을 세계적으로 찾아 세우지 않으면 안 되었던 것이다.
Hitler was the satanic antitype of Jesus. Though his will was totally contrary to Jesus’, certain aspects of Hitler’s life mimicked in a perverted manner some of the events in Jesus’ life: his grandiose vision, his single life and the disappearance of his corpse are examples. Hitler was also the satanic antitype of perfected Adam at the growth stage. He made a travesty of the blessing of the multiplication of children by advocating the purity of the German people as the master race and mimicked the blessing of dominion over the creation by his policy of world conquest. In this manner, Hitler realized an unprincipled world with a satanic form of the three blessings, fulfilled at the growth stage. By prevailing in the Second World War, God’s side was to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition at the growth stage to restore the ideal world of God’s three blessings.
둘째로는, 예수님에 대한 사탄의 둘째 시험을 하늘편 지상인으로 하여금 세계적으로 넘게 하기 위하여 제2차 세계대전이 오게 된다. 그러므로 예수님이 당하셨던 시험을 중심하고 보면, 하늘편에서는 제2차 대전에 승리함으로써 하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀할 수 있는 탕감조건을 세우지 않으면 안 되었다. 왜냐하면 예수님이 광야에서 둘째 시험에 승리함으로써 자녀복귀의 기대를 조성하셨던 것과 같이, 하늘편 세계가 제2차 대전에서 승리함으로 말미암아 민주주의(民主主義)의 장성적인 기대를 조성하여 하늘편 인간들이 그 세계적인 기반을 닦아야 하였기 때문이다.
The second providential cause behind the war was to have the people on God’s side overcome Jesus’ second temptation on the world level. In light of the meaning of Jesus’ three temptations, we can recognize that God’s side had to prevail in the Second World War to fulfill the indemnity condition to restore worldwide God’s second blessing. As Jesus laid the foundation for the restoration of children by overcoming the second temptation in the wilderness, God’s side was to lay the worldwide growth-stage foundation for democracy by triumphing in the Second World War.
셋째로는, 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 장성적(長成的)인 기대를 조성하기 위하여 제2차 세계대전(第二次世界大戰)이 오게 되었던 것이다. 제1차 대전이 하늘편의 승리로 돌아감으로 인하여 민주주의세계는 그 소생적(蘇生的)인 기반을 가지게 되었고, 그에 따라 가인형의 세계를 이루어 나오던 사탄편에서도 제1차 대전이 끝나자 제국주의(帝國主義)를 극복하고 공산주의세계의 소생적인 기반을 닦게 되었었다. 그러므로 제2차 대전은 그 결과적인 사실이 보여 준 바와 같이 민주와 공산의 두 세계를 완전히 분리시켜 각각 그 장성적인 기반을 닦도록 하지 않으면 안 되었던 것이다. 민주주의세계가 이와 같이 그 장성적인 기반을 가지게 됨에 따라서 하늘편 주권복귀는 그 장성적인 기대를 조성하게 되는 것이다.

Working to build the Cain-type world, Satan’s side also benefited from the collapse of Czarist absolutism during the First World War and laid the formation-stage foundation for the communist world. During the Second World War, the communist world and the democratic world built their separate growth-stage foundations before parting company at the conclusion of the war. Building this growth-stage foundation for the democratic world restored the growth-stage foundation of God’s sovereignty.
4.3.6 The Providential Results of the Second World War
제2차 세계대전이 하늘편의 승리로 끝남으로 말미암아 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀하기 위한 장성적인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세울 수 있게 되었고, 예수님에 대한 사탄의 시험을 세계적으로 넘는 입장에서 보면 하나님의 제2축복(第二祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀할 수 있는 탕감조건을 세웠으며, 또 민주주의세계(民主主義世界)가 장성적인 기반을 닦게 됨으로써 주권복귀의 장성적인 기대를 조성하게 되었던 것이다.
The victory of God’s side in the Second World War fulfilled the growth-stage indemnity condition to restore God’s three great blessings worldwide. Having the significance of overcoming Jesus’ second temptation on the world level, the victory fulfilled the indemnity condition to restore God’s second blessing worldwide. Finally, by laying the growth-stage foundation for the democratic world, it established the growth-stage foundation to restore God’s sovereignty.
그리고 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)의 원리로 보아, 사탄편 예수형의 인물인 히틀러와 그 나라가 망하고 사탄편 재림주형(再臨主型)의 인물인 스탈린을 중심한 공산세계(共産世界)가 세계적인 기반을 가지고 나타나게 된 것은, 부활하신 예수님을 중심하고 영적인 왕국을 건설해 나아가던 시대는 지나가고 재림하신 예수님을 중심하고 새 하늘과 새 땅을(계 21 : 1∼7) 건설할 때가 되었음을 보여 주는 것이다.
While Hitler was the antitype of Jesus on Satan’s side, Stalin was the antitype of the Second Advent of Christ on Satan’s side. The fact that Hitler and his nation were destroyed, while Stalin and his foundation of worldwide communism grew strong, indicated that the time for building the spiritual kingdom under the leadership of the resurrected Jesus had passed, and the age for building a new heaven and new earth (Rev. 21:1-7) under the leadership of Christ at the Second Advent had begun.
이와같이 2차대전(二次大戰)이 끝난 후부터는 재림역사(再臨役事)의 장성기(長成期)로 들어가기 때문에, 많은 성도들이 예수 재림에 관한 계시를 받아 신령역사(神靈役事)는 세계적으로 일어나게 되는 것이다. 이에 따라서 모든 기성종교(旣成宗敎)는 더욱 혼돈되고 분열됨으로써 세속적으로 흘러 종교적인 생명을 잃어버리게 되는 것이니, 이것은 최종적인 새 진리에 의하여 모든 종교를 하나로 통일하기 위한 하나님의 종국적인 섭리로 말미암아 일어나는 하나의 말세적인 현상인 것이다.
At the conclusion of the Second World War, the growth stage of the dispensation of the Second Advent commenced. Many Christians began receiving revelations about the return of Jesus, and God’s spiritual works began occurring throughout the world. Since then, the established churches have become increasingly confused, divided and secularized; they have been gradually losing the heart of their spiritual life. These are phenomena of the Last Days, occurring on account of God’s final providence to unify all religions through the new, ultimate expression of the truth.

4.4 The Third World War
1. 제3차 세계대전은 기필코 일어나게 될 것인가
4.4.1 Is the Third World War Inevitable?
하나님은 원래 인간 시조(始祖)를 창조하시고 그에게 세계를 주관하라고 축복하셨기 때문에(창 1 : 28), 사탄이 타락인간(墮落人間)을 앞세워 가지고 먼저 이 축복을 완성한 형의 비원리세계(非原理世界)를 이루어 나아가는 것을 허락하시지 않을 수 없었으며, 그 반면에 하나님은 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)에 의하여 그 뒤를 따라 나오시면서 그것을 하늘편으로 빼앗아 넘기는 역사(役事)를 해오셨다는 것은 우리가 익히 알고 있는 사실이다. 그러므로 인류역사(人類歷史)의 종말에는 사탄편도 하늘편도 모두 세계를 주관하는 데까지 나아가지 않을 수 없게 되어 민주(民主)와 공산(共産)의 두 세계가 양립(兩立)하게 된다. 그리하여 이러한 두 세계의 최종적인 분립과 통합을 위하여 세계대전(世界大戰)은 오게 되는 것이다.
We know that because God gave the first human ancestors the blessing to rule the universe, when Satan works through fallen people to create an unprincipled imitation of the world where this blessing is fulfilled, God has to allow it. On the heels of Satan, God conducts His providence to claim back Satan’s world and its fruits. At the consummation of human history, Satan’s side and God’s side will strive until they each attain sovereignty over a world. This is why the democratic world and the communist world stand confronting each other. Consequently, it became inevitable that there be world wars, first to divide and then to unify these two worlds.
이와 같이 제1차, 제2차의 대전은 세계를 민주와 공산의 두 세계로 분립하기 위한 싸움이었으므로, 다음에는 이 분립된 두 세계를 통일하기 위한 싸움이 와야 하는 것이니, 이것이 곧 제3차 대전(第三次大戰)이다. 그러므로 제3차 대전은 반드시 있어야 하는데, 그 싸움에는 두 가지 길이 있는 것이다.
The First and Second World Wars had the providential purpose of dividing the globe into the communist world and the democratic world. Afterward, yet another war must take place to bring about their unification. This conflict is the Third World War. It is inevitable that the Third World War take place; however, there are two possible ways it may be fought.
첫째는 무기로써 사탄편을 굴복시켜 통일하는 길이다. 그러나 통일된 후에 와야 할 이상세계(理想世界)는 온 인류가 다 같이 기뻐하는 세계여서, 이 세계는 원수를 무기로써 외적으로만 굴복시켜서는 결코 이루어지지 않는 것이기 때문에, 그들을 다시 내적으로도 굴복시켜서 충심으로 기뻐하게 하지 않으면 안 된다. 그러기 위해서는 인간의 본성적인 욕구를 만족시킬 수 있는 완전무결한 이념(理念)이 없어서는 아니 되는 것이다.
One way to bring Satan’s side to surrender is through armed conflict. However, at the conclusion of the conflict, there should come an ideal world in which all humanity is to rejoice together. This can never be built merely by defeating enemies in battle. Afterward, they must be brought to submission internally, that everyone may be reconciled and rejoice sincerely from the bottom of their hearts. To accomplish this, there must come a perfect ideology which can satisfy the desires of the original nature of all people.
그리고 이 싸움의 둘째 길은 무기로 인한 외적인 싸움을 하지 않고, 전적으로 이념에 의한 내적인 싸움으로써 곧장 사탄세계를 굴복시켜 통일하는 길이다. 인간은 이성적(理性的)인 존재이기 때문에, 결국 이성으로 굴복하고 이성으로 하나될 때에만 완전한 하나의 세계가 이루어지게 되는 것이다. 이 두 가지 싸움의 길 중에서 어느 길에 의하여 하나의 세계가 이루어질 것인가 하는 것은 인간의 책임분담(責任分擔) 수행 여부에 따라서 결정될 문제이다. 그러면 이 길에 필요한 새 세계의 이념은 어디서 나오게 될 것인가?
The other way this war may be fought is as a wholly internal, ideological conflict, without the outbreak of armed hostilities, to bring Satan’s world to submission and unification in a short time. People are rational beings. Therefore, a perfect, unified world can be established only when people submit to one another and participate in unification through a profound reawakening. By which of these two ways will the Third World War actually be fought? It depends upon success or failure in carrying out the human portion of responsibility. From where will the ideology essential to the resolution of this conflict and the establishment of the new world come?
인류를 하나의 이상세계(理想世界)에로 인도할 수 있는 이념은 가인형의 인생관으로 세워진 공산주의세계(共産主義世界)에서 나올 리는 만무한 것이다. 왜냐하면 가인형의 인생관은 인간 본성의 내적인 성향을 막고 있기 때문이다. 그러므로 이 이념은 반드시 아벨형의 인생관으로 세워진 민주주의세계(民主主義世界)에서 나와야 할 것인데, 우리가 지금까지 알고 있는 바 민주주의세계의 어떠한 기존 이념도 공산주의의 이념을 굴복시킬 수 없었다는 것은 이미 역사적으로 증명된 사실이다. 그렇다면 이 이념은 기필코 민주주의세계에서 새로이 나오지 않으면 아니 되는 것이다.
It surely cannot come out of the communist world, rooted in the Cain-type view of life, since the Cain-type view of life opposes the internal aspirations of the original human nature. Rather, this ideology must arise out of the democratic world, which is rooted in the Abel-type view of life. Nonetheless, it is a fact of history that no conventional ideology among those prevailing in the democratic world can effectively defeat communist ideology. Therefore, a hitherto unknown ideology will emerge from within the democratic world.
새로운 이념이 나오기 위하여는 새로운 진리(眞理)가 나와야 할 것이니, 이 새로운 진리가 바로 아벨형의 인생관의 근본이며, 따라서 민주주의의 근본이 될 것은 물론이다. 지금까지 시대를 따라 보다 더 새로운 진리를 찾아 나온 역사발전 과정이 그러했던 것과 같이, 이러한 새로운 진리가 나오게 되면 그것은 많은 인간들이 지금까지 진리라고 믿어 온 낡은 것과 서로 상충하게 될 것이므로, 오늘의 민주주의세계에 있어서도 또다시 가인 아벨의 두 입장으로 분립되어 서로 싸우게 될 것이다. 그러나 이 새로운 진리가 민주주의세계에서 승리의 기반을 가지게 되고, 더욱 나아가 공산주의의 이념을 굴복시킬 때에 마침내 하나의 진리에 의한 하나의 세계는 이루어질 것이다.
For the new ideology to be born, there must first arise a new expression of the truth. This new truth is the essence of the Abel-type view of life and the core of democracy. As has been the case in the past, when the new expression of truth appears, it may contradict the old expressions of truth in which many people have believed. Hence, even the democratic world will be divided into two camps which, like Cain and Abel, will be pitted against each other. When the new truth secures a victorious foundation in the democratic world and then conquers communist ideology, the unification of the world will be achieved based on the one truth.
하나님이 이 새로운 진리를 주시어 온 인류를 하나의 이념으로 통합하시려는 섭리(攝理)를 사탄이 먼저 알고, 자기를 중심하고 인류를 통합하려고 거짓 것을 참것인 양 내놓은 사탄편 진리가 바로 변증법적 유물론(辨證法的 唯物論)이다. 변증법적 유물론은 이론적인 근거를 세워 영적인 존재를 말살하려 한다. 이러한 유물론의 입장은 신(神)이 없다는 것을 증거하려 하다가 결과적으로 사탄 자신도 없다는 논리를 스스로 뒤집어쓰지 않을 수 없는 자멸(自滅)의 경지에 빠지고 말았다. 더욱이 사탄은 역사의 종말(終末)을 알고 있으므로 자신이 멸망할 것도 잘 알고 있다. 따라서 결국은 사탄 자신이 섬김을 받지 못할 때가 올 것을 상정하여, 자신의 희생을 각오하고 신을 부정하고 나선 것이 바로 변증법적 유물론인 것이다. 그러므로 민주주의세계(民主主義世界)에서 그 이론을 뒤집어 놓을 수 있는 진리를 내놓지 못하는 한, 하늘편은 언제나 사탄의 이론적인 공세를 면할 길이 없는 것이다. 여기에 하늘편에서 새로이 완성적인 진리를 선포하지 않으면 안 되는 복귀섭리사적(復歸攝理史的)인 근거가 있는 것이다.
Satan knew God’s plan to unify the world through the one truth and presented a false imitation of the truth in order to unify humanity centering on himself. This false truth is dialectical materialism. Dialectical materialism denies the existence of any spiritual reality, setting up an explanation of the universe based on a wholly materialistic logic. In denying the existence of God, it also denies the existence of Satan. Thus, in promoting dialectical materialism, Satan was effectively denying his own reality, even risking his own demise. Satan understood what would unfold at the close of human history and knew well that he would surely perish. Accepting that this was not the time to be worshipped, he rose in a monstrous denial of God, even at the sacrifice of himself. This is the spiritual root of dialectical materialism. As long as the democratic world lacks the truth which can overturn this evil doctrine, it will always be vulnerable and on the defensive. For this reason, someone on God’s side must proclaim the perfect truth.
4.4.2 Summary of the Providence in the Third World War
제3차 대전(第三次大戰)은 복귀섭리를 시작하신 이래, 최종적으로 민주세계(民主世界)로 하여금 공산세계(共産世界)를 굴복시킴으로써 이상세계를 복귀하게 하시려는 전쟁이다. 복귀섭리의 관점에서 보면, 제1차 대전까지 하늘편 세계에서는 식민지(植民地)를 세계적으로 확보함으로써 복귀섭리를 위한 정치와 경제의 판도를 넓혀 민주주의의 소생적(蘇生的)인 기대를 세웠고, 제2차 대전으로는 민주주의의 장성적(長成的)인 기틀을 세계적으로 수립함으로써 민주세계의 판도를 공고히 하였다. 이제 제3차 대전으로는 새로운 진리에 의하여 완전한 아벨형의 인생관을 세움으로써 민주주의의 완성적(完成的)인 기대를 조성해야 되며, 이 기대 위에서 온 인류를 하나의 세계에로 이끌어 가야만 하는 것이다. 그러므로 제3차 세계대전은, 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 역사노정에서 3단계까지 연장하면서 하늘 뜻을 세우려다가 사탄에게 내주었던 모든 것을 역사의 종말기에 이르러 하늘편에서 횡적으로 탕감복귀하는 최종적인 전쟁인 것이다.
The Third World War is the final conflict in the providence of restoration. Through this war, God intends that the democratic world bring the communist world to submission and build the ideal world. Leading up to the First World War, the nations on God’s side had expanded their political and economic dominion by claiming colonies throughout the world, to be used by God for His providence. At the conclusion of the war, these nations laid the worldwide formation-stage foundation for democracy. Through the Second World War, they laid the worldwide growth-stage foundation for democracy, thereby firmly consolidating the democratic world. During the Third World War, God’s side is to found the perfect Abel-type view of life based on the new truth and complete the worldwide completion-stage foundation for democracy. God’s side is then to guide all of humanity into one unified world. In summary, the Third World War is the last great war at the close of history, when God’s side restores horizontally through indemnity all that was lost to Satan throughout the three stages of the prolonged providence.
4.4.3 The Providential Causes behind the Third World War
위에서 논한 바와 같이, 제3차 대전(第三次大戰)이 무력에 의하여 종결될 것인가 혹은 이념의 싸움으로 끝날 것인가 하는 것은, 오직 하나님의 섭리를 받드는 인간 자신의 책임분담(責任分擔) 수행 여하에 따라서 결정될 문제이지만, 여하간 어떠한 길로든지 세계적인 싸움이 한번 더 있어야 할 것만은 틀림이 없다. 그러면 복귀섭리로 보아 제3차 세계대전이 오게 되는내적인 원인은 무엇인가?
As was explained above, whether the Third World War is waged by force of arms or as an ideological conflict depends upon the responsibility of the people who are serving the providence of God. Regardless, it is inescapable that this worldwide conflict take place. What are the internal, providential causes behind the Third World War?
그 첫째는, 하나님의 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 복귀하는 완성적인 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세계적으로 세우려는 것이다. 유대인들의 불신으로 말미암아 예수님을 중심한 복귀섭리는 결국 영적으로만 이루어졌으므로, 예수님은 다시 지상에 오셔서 하나님의 3대 축복을 완성한 세계를 영육(靈肉) 아울러 복귀하시지 않으면 안 된다. 그러므로 사탄은 또 예수님이 재림(再臨)하셔서 이루시려는 세계와 유사한 형의 비원리세계(非原理世界)를 앞질러 이루어 나아가게 된다.
First, the war has to take place to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition at the completion stage to restore God’s three great blessings. When Jesus could accomplish the providence of restoration only spiritually due to the disbelief of the people, it became necessary that he return and restore the world of God’s ideal both spiritually and physically. Yet, since Satan realizes in advance a defective form of God’s ideal, at the consummation of history there will emerge an unprincipled world with the pretense of having restored the three great blessings under the leadership of a satanic antitype of Christ at the Second Advent. By prevailing over this satanic world, God’s side is responsible to fulfill the worldwide indemnity condition at the completion stage to restore the ideal world in which the three great blessings are fulfilled centering on God.
따라서 역사의 종말에는 반드시 사탄편 재림주형(再臨主型)의 인물을 중심하고 3대 축복을 복귀한 형의 비원리세계가 이루어지게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 하늘편에서 사탄을 중심한 이 세계를 쳐서 하나님을 중심하고 3대 축복을 완성한 세계를 복귀하는 완성적인 탕감조건을 세계적으로 찾아 세우지 않으면 아니 된다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 제3차 세계대전이 일어나지 않을 수 없는 것이다. 그 사탄편 재림주형(再臨主型)의 인물이 바로 스탈린이었다. 따라서 스탈린은 사탄편 개성완성형의 인물로서, 민주세계에 대항하여 농어민(農漁民), 노동자의 대동단결(大同團結)을 주창함으로써 자녀 번식의 형을 이루었고, 세계 적화(世界赤化)의 정책을 수립함으로써 만물 주관의 형을 이루어 3대 축복(三大祝福)을 완성한 형의 공산세계를 이룬 것이다. 그러므로 공산주의세계는 장차 올 하나님 중심의 공생공영공의주의세계(共生共榮共義主義世界)를 사탄이 앞질러 이루어 놓은 비원리세계(非原理世界)라는 것을 우리는 알아야 하는 것이다.
Stalin was the satanic antitype of Christ at the Second Advent. He was idolized as a perfect human being. By advocating the solidarity of farmers and workers in opposition to the democratic world, he mimicked the blessing of the multiplication of children, and by his policy of worldwide communist domination, he achieved the outward semblance of the blessing of dominion over the creation. Stalin thus created a vast communist world which realized defectively the outward form of the three great blessings. We must understand that the communist world is the unprincipled and flawed imitation of the world of God’s ideal, which will be characterized by interdependence, mutual prosperity and universally shared values founded in God.
둘째로는, 예수님에 대한 사탄의 셋째 시험을 하늘편 지상인(地上人)으로 하여금 세계적으로 넘게 하기 위하여 제3차 대전(第三次大戰)이 오게 된다. 그러므로 예수님이 당하셨던 시험을 중심하고 보면, 하늘편에서는 제3차 대전에 승리함으로써 하나님의 제3축복(第三祝福)을 세계적으로 복귀할 수 있는 탕감조건(蕩減條件)을 세우지 않으면 안 된다. 왜냐하면 예수님이 광야에서 셋째 시험에 승리함으로써 만물에 대한 주관성 복귀의 기대를 조성한 것과 같이, 하늘편이 제3차 대전에 승리함으로써 피조세계(被造世界) 전체에 대한 인간의 주관성을 복귀하지 않으면 안 되기 때문이다.
Second, the Third World War has to take place to have the people on God’s side overcome Jesus’ third temptation on the world level. In light of the meaning of Jesus’ three temptations, we recognize that God’s side must prevail in the Third World War to fulfill the indemnity condition to restore worldwide God’s third blessing. As Jesus established the foundation to restore dominion over the creation by overcoming the third temptation in the wilderness, God’s side must win in the Third World War to restore human beings’ dominion over the entire universe.
셋째로는, 주권복귀(主權復歸)의 완성적인 기대를 조성하기 위하여 제3차 대전이 있어야 한다. 하늘편에서 제3차 대전에 승리함으로써 공산주의세계를 괴멸하고 모든 주권을 하나님에게 돌아오게 하여 천주주의(天宙主義)의 이상세계(理想世界)를 실현하지 않으면 안 되기 때문이다.
Third, the Third World War has to take place to lay the completion-stage foundation for the restoration of God’s sovereignty. God’s side must be victorious in the war to destroy the communist world and return all sovereignty to God. Then the ideal world will be established based upon the principles of heaven and earth.
4.4.4 The Providential Results of the Third World War
하나님은 일찍이 아담가정에서 가인과 아벨을 세워 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)를 완성하려 하셨다. 그러나 가인이 아벨을 죽임으로 인하여 인류 죄악역사가 시작되었기 때문에, 이것을 탕감복귀(蕩減復歸)하시려는 선악(善惡)의 분립역사는 개인적인 것에서 시작하여 가정, 종족, 사회, 민족, 국가적인 것을 거쳐서 세계적인 것으로 그 범위를 넓혀 내려오셨다. 하나님은 복귀섭리의 최종적 역사인 3차의 대전에 승리함으로써 3단계까지 연장을 거듭하여 온 섭리노정(攝理路程)의 전체를 탕감복귀하시려는 것이다. 태초(太初)에 인간 조상은 사탄의 유혹의 말에 끌려 넘어감으로써 하나님에 대한 심정(心情)을 잃어버리게 되었고, 그로 인한 내적인 영적 타락과 외적인 육적 타락으로 말미암아 사탄의 혈통을 이어받았던 것이다. 그러므로 복귀섭리는 타락인간이 하나님의 생명의 말씀에 의하여 하나님에 대한 심정을 복귀하고, 영육(靈肉) 아울러 구원함을 받아 하나님의 혈통을 다시 이어받음으로써 완성되는 것이다 (후편 제2장 제3절 Ⅲ 2 참조).
Long ago, God intended to conclude His providence of restoration in Adam’s family by working through Cain and Abel. Instead, Cain murdered Abel, commencing the sinful history of humanity. God began the dispensation of dividing good and evil to restore the failure in Adam’s family on the individual level and developed it through the levels of family, clan, society, people and nation. The time has come when God conducts this dispensation on the world level. God intends to restore through indemnity the entire providence, which was prolonged to the third stage, by winning victory in the three world wars, which belong to the final chapter of providential history. In the beginning, the first human ancestors lost their connection of heart to God when they fell prey to the tempting words of Satan. Through the internal, spiritual fall and the external, physical fall, they inherited the lineage of Satan. Therefore, the providence of restoration can be completed only after fallen people restore their heart toward God through God’s life-giving Word, are saved both spiritually and physically, and inherit God’s lineage. (cf. Moses and Jesus 3.3.2)
이제 3차에 걸친 세계대전에서의 하늘편 승리는 이러한 복귀섭리의 모든 기대(基臺)를 완전히 탕감복귀함으로써, 인간이 타락된 이후 유구한 역사의 기간을 두고 하나님이 이루려 하셨던 창조본연(創造本然)의 이상세계(理想世界)를 이룩하게 될 것이다.
The victories of God’s side in the three world wars will fully restore through indemnity all these aspects of the providence of restoration. They will make possible the realization of God’s ideal world, for which God has labored with unremitting tears over the centuries of human misery since the Fall.
