우리는 이미 제1절에서 뱀은 곧 해와를 타락시킨 천사(天使)를 비유한 것이라는 사실을 밝혔다. 이처럼 인간의 타락(墮落)된 동기가 천사에게 있었으므로, 그 타락의 동기와 경로를 알려면 먼저 천사에 관한 것을 알지 않으면 안 된다.
The motivation of the human Fall lay within the angel, who, as we have seen, is symbolized by the serpent who tempted Eve. Therefore, before we can know the motivation and the process of the Fall, we must first learn about the angel.
2.1 Angels, Their Missions and Their Relationship to Human Beings
모든 존재는 하나님에 의하여 창조되었다. 따라서 천사(天使)도 하나님이 창조하신 피조물(被造物)이 아닐 수 없는 것이다. 하나님은 천사세계를 다른 어떤 피조물보다도 먼저 창조하셨다. 창세기 1장 26절에 씌어 있는 천지창조(天地創造)의 기록을 보면, 하나님은 우리의 형상을 따라 우리의 모양대로 우리가 사람을 만들고라고 스스로를 복수(複數)로 부르셨는데, 이것은 지금까지의 많은 신학자들의 해석대로 삼위신(三位神)의 입장이었기 때문에 그렇게 말씀하신 것이 아니고, 인간보다도 먼저 창조되어 있었던 천사들을 놓고 그들을 포함시킨 입장에서 하신 말씀이었음을 알아야 한다.
Like all beings, angels were created by God. God created them prior to any other creation. In the biblical account of the creation of heaven and earth, we find that God spoke in the plural: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gen. 1:26) This is not because God was referring to Himself as the Holy Trinity, as many theologians have interpreted the passage. Rather, He was speaking to the angels, whom He had created before human beings.
하나님은 피조세계(被造世界)의 창조와 그의 경륜(經綸)을 위하여 먼저 천사를 사환(使喚) 으로 창조하셨다(히 1 : 14). 천사는 아브라함에게 하나님의 중대한 축복의 말씀을 전하였고(창 18 : 10), 그리스도의 잉태에 관한 소식을 전하였으며(마 1 : 20, 눅 1 : 31), 옥중에서 쇠사슬에 묶여 있는 베드로를 풀어 성 밖으로 인도하였던 것이다(행 12 : 7∼10). 이밖에도 하나님의 뜻을 위하여 천사가 활동한 예는 성서에서 무수히 찾아볼 수 있다. 그러므로 요한계시록 22장 9절에는 천사가 자기 자신을 ‘종’이라고 하였고, 또 히브리서 1장 14절에는 천사를 ‘부리는 영(靈)’이라고 기록하여 놓았다. 그리고 천사는 하나님에게 송영(誦詠)을 드리는 존재로서 창조되었다는 증거를 성서 가운데서 많이 찾아볼 수 있는 것이다(계 5 : 11, 계 7 : 11).
God created angels to be His retainers, who would assist Him in creating and sustaining the universe. In the Bible we find many instances of angels working for the Will of God. Angels conveyed to Abraham important words of God’s blessing; (Gen. 18:10) an angel heralded the conception of Christ; (Matt. 1:20); (Luke 1:31) an angel unchained Peter and led him out of prison and into the city. (Acts 12:7-10) The angel who escorts John in the Book of Revelation calls himself “a servant,” (Rev. 22:9) and in Hebrews angels are referred to as “ministering spirits.” (Heb. 1:14) The Bible often portrays angels honoring and praising God. (Rev. 5:11-12); (Rev. 7:11-12)
다음에는 천사와 인간과의 창조원리적 관계를 알아보자. 하나님은 인간을 자녀로 창조하시고 피조세계에 대한 주관권(主管權)을 부여하셨기 때문에(창 1 : 28), 인간은 천사도 주관하게 되어 있는 것이다. 고린도전서 6장 3절을 보면, 인간에게는 천사를 심판할 수 있는 권한이 있다고 하였다. 그리고 영계(靈界)를 통하는 모든 사람들은 수많은 천사들이 낙원(樂園)에 있는 성도들을 옹위하고 있는 것을 보게 되는데, 이것도 역시 천사의 인간에 대한 시종적(侍從的)인 관계를 말해 주는 하나의 좋은 예라 하겠다.
Let us investigate the relationship between human beings and angels from the perspective of the Principle of Creation. Because God created us as His children and gave us dominion over all creation, (Gen. 1:28) we are meant to rule over the angels as well. It is written in the Bible that we have the authority to judge the angels. (I Cor. 6:3) Many who communicate with the spirit world have witnessed hosts of angels escorting the saints in Paradise. These observations illustrate the fact that angels have the mission to minister to human beings.
2.2 The Spiritual Fall and the Physical Fall
하나님은 영적인 부분과 육적인 부분으로써 인간을 창조(創造)하셨기 때문에, 타락에 있어서도 영육(靈肉) 양면의 타락(墮落)이 성립된 것이다. 천사와 해와와의 혈연관계(血緣關係)에 의한 타락이 영적 타락이고, 해와와 아담과의 혈연관계에 의한 타락이 육적 타락인 것이다.
God created human beings with two components: the spirit self and the physical self. The human Fall likewise took place in two dimensions: the spiritual and the physical. The fall which took place through the sexual relationship between the angel and Eve was the spiritual fall, while the fall which occurred through the sexual relationship between Eve and Adam was the physical fall.
그러면 천사(天使)와 인간과의 사이에 어떻게 성적(性的)인 관계가 성립될 수 있을 것인가? 인간과 영물(靈物)과의 사이에서 느끼는 모든 감성은 어떠한 점에서나 실체적인 존재 사이에서 느끼는 그 감성과 조금도 다름이 없다. 그러므로 인간과 천사와의 성적 타락은 사실상 가능한 것이다.
How can an act of passionate love be consummated between an angel and a human being? All the emotions and sensations felt between a person and a spirit are exactly the same as those felt during contact between two earthly people. Undoubtedly, a sexual union between an angel and a person is possible.
한편 우리는 다음과 같은 사실을 통하여서도 위에서 말한 내용을 더욱 확실하게 이해할 수 있게 된다. 즉 인간사회에 있어서 지상인간들이 영인(靈人)들과 결혼생활을 하는 예가 왕왕 있다는 것, 그리고 천사(天使)가 야곱과 씨름을 하여서 그의 환도뼈를 부러뜨렸다는 예(창 32 : 25)와 함께, 천사가 아브라함의 가정에 나타나 고기를 먹었다는 사실(창 18 : 8)과, 또 롯의 집에 찾아온 두 천사가 롯이 대접한 무교병(無酵餠)을 먹었을 뿐 아니라, 그 성 백성들이 그 천사를 보고 색정(色情)을 일으키어 롯의 집을 둘러싸고 이 저녁에 네게 온 사람이 어디 있느냐 이끌어 내라 우리가 그들을 상관하리라(창 19 : 5)고 외친 사실 등은 모두 이에 속한 예들인 것이다.
We can understand this more clearly from the following evidence. There are reported cases of earthly people leading a married life with spirits. In the Bible we have the account of an angel who wrestled with Jacob and put his thigh out of joint. (Gen. 32:25) Three angels visited Abraham’s family and ate a meal of veal, milk and curds. (Gen. 18:8) Moreover, two angels visited the house of Lot and ate the unleavened bread he served them. When the townspeople saw the angels, they were excited with lecherous desires for them and surrounded Lot’s house, shouting, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.” (Gen. 19:5)
1. 영적 타락
2.2.1 The Spiritual Fall
하나님은 천사세계(天使世界)를 창조하시고(창 1 : 26), 누시엘(啓明星이란 뜻, 사 14 : 12)을 천사장(天使長)의 위(位)에 세우셨다. 그렇기 때문에 마치 아브라함이 이스라엘의 복(福)의 기관이 되었던 것같이 누시엘은 천사세계의 사랑의 기관이 되어 하나님의 사랑을 독점하는 것과 같은 위치에 있었던 것이다. 그러나 하나님이 그의 자녀로서 인간을 창조하신 후에는 종으로 창조된 누시엘보다도 그들을 훨씬 더 사랑하시었다.
God created the angelic world and assigned Lucifer (Isa. 14:12) to the position of archangel. Lucifer was the channel of God’s love to the angelic world, just as Abraham was the channel of God’s blessing to the Israelites. In this position he virtually monopolized the love of God. However, after God created human beings as His children, He loved them many times more than He had ever loved Lucifer, whom He had created as His servant.
사실상 누시엘은 인간이 창조(創造)되기 전이나 후나 조금도 다름없는 사랑을 하나님으로부터 받고 있었지만, 하나님이 자기보다도 아담과 해와를 더 사랑하시는 것을 볼 때에 그는 사랑에 대한 일종의 감소감(減少感)을 느끼게 되었던 것이다. 이것은 마치 아침부터 노동을 한 일꾼이 자기대로의 상당한 노임(勞賃)을 다 받았음에도 불구하고, 늦게 와서 적게 일한 일꾼도 자기와 똑같은 노임을 받는 것을 볼 때에 자기가 받는 노임에 대한 감소감을 느꼈다고 하는 성서(聖書)의 예화(마 20 : 1∼15)와 같은 입장인 것이다. 이러한 입장에서 사랑의 감소감을 느끼게 된 누시엘은, 자기가 천사세계에서 가졌던 사랑의 위치와 동일한 것을 인간세계에 대하여서도 그대로 가져 보고자 해와를 유인하게 되었던 것이니, 이것이 곧 영적 타락(靈的 墮落)의 동기였다.
In truth, God’s love toward Lucifer did not change; it was the same before and after the creation of human beings. Yet when Lucifer saw that God loved Adam and Eve more than him, he felt as if there had been a decrease in the love he received from God. This situation is similar to that in the biblical parable of the laborers in the vineyard. (Matt. 20:1-15) Although the laborers who had worked since morning received a fair wage, when they saw that those who came later and worked less received just as much, they felt underpaid. Lucifer, feeling as though he were receiving less love than he deserved, wanted to grasp the same central position in human society as he enjoyed in the angelic world, as the channel of God’s love. This was why he seduced Eve, and this was the motivation of the spiritual fall.
피조세계(被造世界)는 하나님의 사랑의 주관을 받도록 창조되었다. 따라서 사랑은 피조물의 생명의 근본이요, 행복과 이상(理想)의 요소가 된다. 그러므로 이 사랑을 많이 받는 존재일수록 더 아름답게 보이는 것이다. 따라서 하나님의 종으로 창조된 천사(天使)가 하나님의 자녀로 창조된 해와를 대할 때, 그가 아름답게 보였던 것은 당연한 일이었다. 더구나 해와가 누시엘의 유혹에 끌려오는 빛을 보였을 때, 그는 해와로부터 말할 수 없는 사랑의 자극을 받게 되었던 것이다. 이렇게 되자 누시엘은 죽음을 무릅쓰고 더욱 해와를 유인하게 되었다. 이와 같이 사랑에 대한 과분한 욕망으로 인하여 자기의 위치를 떠난 누시엘과, 하나님과 같이 눈이 밝아지려고 때 아닌 때에 때의 것을 바란 해와가(창 3 : 5∼6) 서로 상대기준(相對基準)을 조성하여 수수작용(授受作用)을 하게 되었으므로, 그로 인한 비원리적인 사랑의 힘은 그들로 하여금 불륜(不倫)한 영적인 정조관계(貞操關係)를 맺게 하였던 것이다.
Everything in the universe is created to be governed by God through love. Thus, love is the source of life, the key to happiness, and the essence of the ideal to which all beings aspire. The more one receives love, the more beautiful one appears to others. When the angel, created as God’s servant, beheld Eve, the daughter of God, it was only natural that she looked beautiful in his eyes. Moreover, when Lucifer saw that Eve was responding to his temptation, the angel felt the stimulation of her love to be deliciously enticing. At this point, Lucifer was seducing Eve with the mind to have her, regardless of the consequences. Lucifer, who left his proper position due to his excessive desire, and Eve, who wanted to open her eyes and become like God (Gen. 3:5-6) before the time was ripe, formed a common base and began give and take action. The power of the unprincipled love generated by their give and take led them to consummate an illicit sexual relationship on the spiritual plane.
사랑으로 일체를 이루면 서로 그 대상으로부터 그의 요소를 받도록 창조된 원리에 의하여 (창 3 : 7), 해와는 누시엘과 사랑으로써 일체를 이루었을 때 누시엘의 요소를 받았던 것이다. 즉 첫째로 그는 누시엘로부터 창조목적(創造目的)에 대한 배치(背馳)로 말미암은 양심의 가책에서 오는 공포심을 받았고, 둘째로는 자기가 본래 대해야 할 창조본연(創造本然)의 부부로서의 상대자는 천사가 아니고 아담이었다는 사실을 감득할 수 있는 새로운 지혜를 그에게서 받게 되었던 것이다. 당시 해와는 아직도 미완성기(未完成期)에 있었다. 따라서 그 자체로서는 이미 완성기(完成期)에 처해 있었던 천사장(天使長)에 비하여 지혜가 성숙하지 못하였기 때문에, 그는 천사장으로부터 그 지혜를 받게 되었던 것이다.
All beings are created based on the principle that when they become one in love, they exchange elements with each other. Accordingly, when Eve became one with Lucifer through love, she received certain elements from him. First, she received feelings of dread arising from the pangs of a guilty conscience, stemming from her violation of the purpose of creation. Second, she received from Lucifer the wisdom which enabled her to discern that her originally intended spouse was to be Adam, not the angel. Eve was in the position to receive wisdom from the Archangel because she was immature and her wisdom was not as seasoned as that of the Archangel, who was already in a state of angelic maturity.
2. 육적 타락
2.2.2 The Physical Fall
아담과 해와는 완성하여서 하나님을 중심하고 영원한 부부를 이루어야 할 것이었다. 그런데 해와가 미완성기에서 천사장(天使長)과 불륜(不倫)한 혈연관계(血緣關係)를 맺은 후, 다시 뒤미처 아담과 부부의 관계를 맺었기 때문에 아담도 역시 미완성기에서 타락되었다. 이렇게 때 아닌 때에 사탄을 중심삼고 아담과 해와 사이에 이루어진 부부관계는 그대로 육적 타락(肉的 墮落)이 되고 말았던 것이다.
Perfect Adam and Eve were supposed to have become an eternal husband and wife in God’s love. But Eve, who in her immaturity had engaged in the illicit relationship with the Archangel, joined with Adam as husband and wife. Thus, Adam fell when he, too, was still immature. This untimely conjugal relationship in satanic love between Adam and Eve constituted the physical fall.
위에서 언급한 바와 같이 해와는 천사장과의 영적인 타락에서, 양심의 가책으로부터 온 공포심과 자기의 원리적인 상대가 천사장이 아니고 아담이라는 것을 깨닫게 된 새로운 지혜를 얻게 되었던 것이다. 여기에서 해와는 그제서나마 자기의 원리적 상대인 아담과 일체를 이룸으로써 하나님 앞에 다시 서고, 또 타락으로 인하여 오게 된 공포심을 면할 수 있기를 바라는 마음에서 아담을 유인하게 되었으니, 이것이 육적 타락의 동기가 되었던 것이다.
As mentioned above, through the spiritual fall with the Archangel, Eve received feelings of dread arising from the pangs of a guilty conscience and a new wisdom that her originally intended spouse was not the Archangel but Adam. Eve then seduced Adam with the hope that by uniting with him, her intended spouse, she could rid herself of the dread and once again stand before God. This was Eve’s motivation which led to the physical fall.
이때에 불륜한 정조관계(貞操關係)에 의하여 천사장과 일체를 이루었던 해와는 아담에 대하여 천사장의 입장에 서게 되었던 것이다. 따라서 하나님이 사랑하시는 아담은 해와의 눈에 매우 아름답게 보여졌다. 그리하여 해와에게 있어 아담은, 그로 말미암아서만 하나님 앞으로 돌아갈 수 있는 유일한 소망의 대상이었던 것이다. 그래서 해와는 자기를 유혹하였던 천사장과 똑같은 입장에서 아담을 유혹하였다. 아담이 누시엘과 같은 입장에 서 있었던 해와와 상대기준을 조성하여 수수작용(授受作用)을 함으로써 일어났던 비원리적인 사랑의 힘은, 아담으로 하여금 창조본연(創造本然)의 위치를 떠나게 하여, 마침내 그들은 육적인 불륜한 정조관계를 맺게 되었던 것이다.
Once Eve had united with the Archangel through their illicit sexual relationship, she stood in the position of the Archangel with respect to Adam. Thus, Adam, who was still receiving God’s love, appeared very attractive to her. Seeing Adam as her only hope of returning to God, Eve turned to Adam and tempted him, playing the same role as the Archangel had played when he had tempted her. Adam responded and formed a common base with Eve, and they began give and take action with each other. The power of the unprincipled love generated in their relationship induced Adam to abandon his original position and brought them together in an illicit physical relationship of sexual love.
아담은 해와와 일체를 이룸으로써 해와가 누시엘로부터 받았던 모든 요소를 그대로 이어받게 되었다. 그리고 이 요소는 다시 그 후손에게로 연면히 유전되어 내려온 것이다. 해와는 타락되었다 할지라도 만일 아담이 타락된 해와를 상대하지 않고 완성되었더라면, 완성한 주체(主體)가 그대로 남아 있기 때문에 그 대상(對象)인 해와 하나에 대한 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)는 대단히 용이했을 것이었다. 그러나 아담마저 타락하였기 때문에 사탄의 혈통을 계승한 인류가 오늘날까지 번식하여 내려온 것이다.
When Adam united in oneness with Eve, he inherited all the elements Eve had received from the Archangel. These elements in turn have been passed down to all subsequent generations without interruption. What if Adam had reached perfection without having yielded to fallen Eve’s temptation? The providence to restore Eve would have been relatively easy because, although she had fallen, Adam still would have remained intact as her perfect subject partner. Unfortunately, Adam also fell, and humanity has multiplied in sin to the present day, perpetuating the lineage of Satan.
