제2절 뜻 성사에 대한 예정
창조원리(創造原理)에서 이미 밝혀진 바와 같이, 하나님의 창조목적은 인간이 그 책임분담(責任分擔)을 완수함으로써만 이루어지도록 되어 있다. 따라서 이 목적을 다시 찾아 이루시려는 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)의 뜻은 절대적이기 때문에 인간이 관여할 수 없으나, 그 ‘뜻 성사’에는 어디까지나 인간의 책임분담이 가담되지 않으면 안 되는 것이다.
According to the Principle of Creation, God’s purpose of creation can be realized only when human beings complete their portion of responsibility. (cf. Creation 5.2.2) Although God’s Will to realize this purpose through the providence of restoration is absolute and beyond human influence, its fulfillment necessarily requires the accomplishment of the human portion of responsibility.
그러므로 아담과 해와를 중심한 하나님의 창조목적은, 사실상 선악과(善惡果)를 따먹지 않는 것으로 그들에게 맡겨진 책임분담을 그들 자신이 완수함으로써만 이루어지게 되어 있었던 것이다(창 2 :17). 따라서 복귀섭리의 목적을 이루시는 데 있어서도, 그 사명을 담당한 중심인물이 그 책임분담을 수행함으로써만 그 뜻은 이루어지는 것이다. 예수님도 구원섭리(救援攝理)의 목적을 완성하시 기 위하여는 유대인들이 그를 절대로 믿고 따라야 할 것이었는데, 그들이 불신으로 돌아감으로써 책임분담을 완수하지 못하였기 때문에 이 뜻 성사는 부득이 재림 때에로 미루지 않을 수 없게 되었던 것이다.
Originally, God’s purpose of creation was to be fulfilled through Adam and Eve only when they completed their given responsibility and refrained from eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Gen. 2:17) Similarly, in the providence of restoration, God’s Will is accomplished only when the central figure responsible for a mission completes his portion of responsibility. For example, the Jewish people, as the central nation of the providence, should have believed in Jesus and followed him unconditionally in order for God to accomplish complete salvation at that time. Because they disbelieved and failed to fulfill their responsibility, the fulfillment of the Will had to be postponed until the time of the Second Advent.
그러면 하나님은 ‘뜻 성사’에 대하여 어느 정도로 예정하시는 것일까? 이미 위에서 논급한 바와 같이 복귀섭리의 목적을 이루시려는 뜻은 절대적인 것이지만 그 뜻의 성사는 어디까지나 상대적이기 때문에, 하나님이 하실 95퍼센트의 책임분담에 그 중심인물이 담당해야 할 5퍼센트의 책임분담이 가담되어서만 그것이 이루어질 수 있도록 예정하시는 것이다. 여기서 인간책임분담(人間責任分擔) 5퍼센트라고 하는 것은 하나님의 책임분담에 비하여 극히 작은 것임을 표시한 것이다. 그러나 이것이 인간 자신에 있어서는 100퍼센트에 해당한다는 것을 알아야 한다.
To what extent does God predestine the unfolding of the events in the providence? Although God’s Will to realize the purpose of the providence of restoration is absolute, God predestines the process of its accomplishment conditionally, contingent upon the five percent responsibility of the central figure, which must be completed in addition to the ninety-five percent responsibility of God. The proportion of five percent is used to indicate that the human portion of responsibility is extremely small when compared to God’s portion of responsibility. Yet for human beings, this five percent is equivalent to one hundred percent of our effort.
이에 대한 예를 들면, 아담 해와를 중심한 ‘뜻 성사’는 그들이 선악과(善惡果)를 따먹지 않는 것으로 책임분담(責任分擔)을 완수함으로써 되어지도록 예정하셨던 것이다. 노아를 중심한 복귀섭리도 노아가 방주(方舟)를 제작하는 일에 충성을 다하는 것으로 그의 책임분담을 완수함으로써 그 ‘뜻’이 이루어지도록 예정하셨던 것이다. 그리고 예수님의 구원섭리(救援攝理)도 타락인간(墮落人間)이 그를 메시아로 믿고 따르는 것으로 책임분담을 완수함으로써 비로소 그 ‘뜻’이 이루어지도록 예정되어 있었던 것이다(요 3 : 16). 그러나 인간들은 이 작은 책임분담마저 감당치 못함으로써 하나님의 복귀섭리를 연장케 하였었다.
To cite some examples: God predestined that His Will be fulfilled through Adam and Eve only when they refrained from eating the fruit and completed their responsibility. In the dispensation of restoration through Noah, God predestined that His Will be fulfilled only after Noah completed his responsibility by exerting himself with the utmost devotion in building the ark. In the providence of salvation through Jesus, God predestined that His Will be fulfilled only after fallen people completed their responsibility by believing in Jesus as the Messiah and rendering him devoted service. (John 3:16) However, time and again human beings could not cope with even their small portion of responsibility. Consequently, God’s providence has been repeatedly prolonged.
한편 또 야고보서 5장 15절에는 믿음의 기도는 병든 자를 구원하리니라고 기록되어 있고, 마가복음 5장 34절에는 네 믿음이 너를 구원하였으니라고 하신 말씀이 있으며, 마태복음 7장 8절에서는 구하는 이마다 얻을 것이요 찾는 이가 찾을 것이요 두드리는 이에게 열릴 것이니라고 하셨다. 이러한 성구(聖句)들은 모두 인간 자신의 책임분담 수행에 의하여서만 ‘뜻’이 이루어지도록 예정되었다는 사실을 증시(證示)한 것이다.
It is written in the Bible, “The prayer of faith will save the sick man,” (James 5:15) “Your faith has made you well,” (Mark 5:34) and “For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:8) These verses confirm that God predestines His Will to be fulfilled contingent upon human beings’ completing their portion of responsibility.
그리고 이 모든 경우에 있어서의 인간이 담당했던 책임분담은 하나님이 그의 책임분담으로 담당하신 수고와 은사에 비하여 얼마나 미소(微小)한 것인가를 알 수 있는 동시에, 다른 한편 섭리적 중심인물들이 그들의 책임분담을 감당치 못함으로써 복귀섭리(復歸攝理)를 연장시켜 왔던 사실로 미루어 보아, 이 경미(輕微)한 책임분담이 인간 자신에 있어서는 얼마나 힘에 겨울 만큼 큰 것이었던가 하는 것을 가히 짐작할 수 있는 것이다.
We should recognize from these examples how minuscule the human portion of responsibility is in comparison to God’s toil and grace, which is His portion of responsibility. On the other hand, when we consider the fact that over and over again central figures in the providence could not cope with their responsibility, we can appreciate how extremely difficult it was for them to fulfill even this comparatively small portion.
